Why do you asseverate this? Of course make sense , If you have your principal drive messed up for any reason, you will lost anything (hopefully) if the data is saved in another drive.

Using the "External Programs" feature in Cumulus, you can run a batch file to backup your data in another drive, you have to decide how often you need to backup your data.
In my specific case, our stations uses the External Program feature for compressing all the data files in the Cumulus\Data Folder, then synchronizing those files with our web server, at our rollover time (midnight).

If a station failure occurs, hopefully we only lost the last 24 hours of data.

Just curious... Why not install Cumulus on drive D...

The answer to the original question is no, you can only have the data folder in the same place that you install Cumulus. Possibly in the future this will change.

Regarding backing up data, then I would have thought it would be better to use a proper backup facility rather than relying on the Cumulus facility to run external programs.

And if the operating system (be it Windows or another) gets corrupted or 'crashes', Cumulus and its data are still in 'good shape' (ie: good running conditions) on drive D.

Steve, please correct me if I am wrong (my memory is not what it used to be), but I think you mentioned that Cumulus writes very little if nothing at all in the Windows' registry file?

That's correct. Only the installer writes to the registry - the standard 'uninstall' information.

So, technically, Cumulus could be run from drive D without a new installation (other than re-creating the links to the software).

Note: Steve, I know it can be done as I have done it more than once (well, I have never installed Cumulus on drive C)... ...but I wanted you to confirm that possibility so other users might be able to use that option.

I am away for 6 days now (well 7 if you include the day i am queuing to get the new iphone, so I have backed up my entire cumulus folder onto a pen drive.

You could always leave a pen drive plugged in, and use a free file sync program such as this

to back it up daily

Yes, you can move it without causing any problems to Cumulus. The uninstaller would get confused, and also the installer when you install a new version of Cumulus - it would offer you the original location by default. I suspect this is why some users complain that they have 'lost' their data after an upgrade; they had moved the Cumulus installation previously.
