Website newbie question
I am having fun tinkering with the supplied Cumulus webpages, but I get confused about some things. I have altered the page with a different image and background and also added a forecast site. Now I wanted to add a Radar link to the bottom of the page so I edited the indexT.htm file and uploaded it to the FTP server. I can open that file on the web and it shows the link on the bottom of the page next to the webcam link, however when Cumulus sends the update to the website server the web page does not show the Radar Link. If I send an edited index.htm file to the FTP server it will show the Radar link but whenever Cumulus updates it disappears. any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Website newbie question
when you have edited the indexT.htm ,you must save it in the cumulus folder,(c:/prog files/cumulus,or wherever you have it installed).
cumulus then uploads it for you when it updates.
so you overwrite the original one(back it up)
or you uncheck "include standard files" at the internet settings.

Re: Website newbie question
I tried as you said, but the page still is not showing the link. On the Control panel at the web server I have both indexT and index files. The "T" file shows the correct layout but the "index" file, which I assume has the current supplied data from Cumulus does not show the Radar link on the bottom of the page. It appears the "index" file is the one that get displayed on the web page. If I edit that file it will display correctly until the next update.

Re: Website newbie question
when you have placed the indexT(with your radar link) in the cumulus web folder,(so you replaced the original),
you check in cumulus internet settings ïnclude standard files.
it then processes indexT to index, that is the one it wil upload.
after it has done that, you can uncheck it before it updates again for the second time.
on your ftp,you can remove the indexT file from your webspace,it has no use there.
if you leave the standard files checked,it will not only update your data, but also the Tpages.
if you uncheck it ,it wil only update your data.

Re: Website newbie question
Hans, I appreciate your help with this, but I just can not get it to work. I will keep trying. When cumulus updates it includes ALL of the modifications I did except the "Radar" link on the bottom of the page. I wrote <#radar> and placed it between"forum" and "webcam". ,but it does not show up in the index file. Thanks though.

Re: Website newbie question
Why ?... I wrote <#radar> and placed it between"forum" and "webcam".
<#variable_name> are tags peculiar to Cumulus, it has no knowledge of a 'RADAR' tag !
You need to just use 'ordinary' html:
eg
Code: Select all
<a href="http://www.theradarsite.com" target="_blank">Local RADAR</a>......................Imagine, what you will KNOW tomorrow !

Beteljuice, Thank you!! Of course I had no idea about the "tags" issue. I am just learning all of this. But it now works!! Thank you again!! The people on this forum are really quite special and as a newbie it is greatly appreciated. I am trying to learn more about HTML and am looking forward to any new knowledge. Again thank you!
