WEA22 Console

Hi, I have had a WeatheEye WEA22 weather station for over two years now & it has given me no problems, until now.
The console unit has stopped working, it started with just freezing up so I couldn't see the max/min values etc.. when I pressed the screen, then the screen just went blank completely. I have my suspicions that someone spilt a drink/water on it, of course no one has owned up! The weather station is still working fine as when connected to the PC it is still giving me all the info, though of course it is far easier to use the console on a day to day basis.

I emailed WeatherEye to ask if they sell the spare console's & they do, the problem is they are £69.99
On searching the net I saw a couple of places selling spares for weather stations that look identical to the WEA22, the first was the Watson W8681 which is £39.95 + P&P for the console & the WH1080 console which is just £25.00 + P&P

Of course I would much rather pay the cheapest cost, so would these other stations console units work with my weather station sensors??

Hi,

Fine Offset do indeed sell very similar (or even identical) weather stations under different "brand" names. But I'm afraid there can be some differences.

The most fundamental difference is the radio frequency, either 434MHz (e.g. from Maplin) or 868Mhz (e.g. WH1080 from Clas Ohlson) in Europe or 915MHz for North America, etc.

Secondly, the Radio Controlled Clock receiver (e.g. WH1080) is located in the external "transmitter" (Temp/Hygro) module. I don't know if a non-RCC Console can be used with a RCC transmitter, or vice versa.

Thirdly, systems with Solar/UV data (e.g. WH3080/1) are certainly not compatible with earlier models.

Finally, it has been reported that the latest stations from Maplin are not compatible with their earlier kits (even though they may be sold under the same Maplin order code). It is not known if similar issues apply with other brands.

Certainly don't pay £60+ just for a console because you should be able to buy a complete kit for about that price. Most of the sensors (wind and rain) are compatible, so you can use your existing sensors and keep those in a new kit for spares.

My WEA22 uses a frequency of 868 Mhz & it also has the RCC function, so I would assume the WH1080 console should be compatible. As that is the cheapest model I have found it may be worth giving it a go, I guess I could always sell it on ebay if it doesn't work...

I was quite shocked at the price quoted by WeatherEye, as, like you say, you can now pick up these complete weather stations for not much more than £50!
