Help! Bewildered Newby can't load webpages....

Post by WeatherWarden »

Hello everybody,

I'm a complete new starter to this arena but have been viewing these pages for several months now and have already gleaned great help from them, so a genuine thank you to everybody for that.
I finally got my new weather station set up over the weekend and everything seems fine with that. (maplin N96GY on one of their bargain week ends!)
Couldn't wait to get a web site set up so configured the details to go with the "Simple Website" as described in the Cumulus Wiki. Have referred constantly to both the Wiki and the Cumulus Help pages throughout this, but now feel like a complete idiot as although the files all appear to transfer correctly and the Cumulus update seems to work all I can view is the web host place holder when I visit my web address.

My web address is: www.weatherwarden.webspace.virginmedia.com
Host name: ftp.webspace.virginmedia.com
Directory: htdocs

Have loaded, reloaded, deleted loaded again and again and read countless bits of advice over the last 48 hours, and have just uploaded again now. Each time the transfer process seems to be correct and the correct files are there but nothing other than the Virgin Media placeholder when I visit my web address.

Can anybody point out where I'm going wrong please?
It's really doing my head in now, I know I must be doing something very foolish or I'm missing something very simple, but I just can't see what it is.

Here are the settings I've used as advised by Virgin (I have used my own, correct username and login when configuring! :D )

FTP upload server: ftp.webspace.virginmedia.com

FTP port: 21

FTP username: Your Webspace username

FTP password: Your Webspace password

Path: /htdocs/

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Best Regards,
Dave

Looks fine to me. Perhaps your default page is cached in your browser? Try forcing a refresh.

Thanks Steve - looks fine to me now too!

I use Firefox and it has just continually come back with the placeholder.
On reading your post, I visited via IE 9 and there she was in all her glory.
Back in Firefox forced refresh and she's there too...doh!

Thanks very much Steve.
Brilliant software, class forum and great help all round.
Donation coming when I get my next pay cheque mate.

Best Regards,
Dave
