Custom 404 page problem.

Post by duke »

So I finally got around to creating a custom 404 page which you can see working HERE.

The page displays fine when you enter the address directly in your browser but, if you go to my site and enter a fictitious page HERE'S ONE you will find you get the same page but without the CSS applied and displaying the "alt text" :?

Any ideas? Does the same on my local server.

And here's the line from the .htaccess
ErrorDocument 404 /error_pages/error404.php

You need to change the relative links in your 404 page into absolute (full path) links.

Thank you Steve. Perfect.

Excuse my ignorance but why do they need to be absolute?

Because the 404 page is displayed in the context of the missing page, e.g. in your example http://www.nightingaleweather.co.uk/wea ... orking.php it would have been looking for the css file in the weather directory, when it's actually in the error_pages directory.

Good point, I just saw it as residing in the same directory as the css. Thanks.
