Hi All... I need help.

Post by NealH »

Hi everyone I am new. I sent this email below to Davis but feel I'll most likely have better success here. ..........

Hi there,

I have a davis pro vantage 2. It was running fine on my data logger with weatherlink and I tried to connect it to Cumulus. I followed these instructions ....................

1. Disregard any information about downloading a CP210X driver from Davis or directly from Silicon Labs. This is a pathway to insanity.
2. Go to the Davis website and download the latest version of the WeatherLink Updater at: http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... _sftwr.asp
3. Disconnect the Data Logger
4. Run the updater program
5. The Updater will install the "manufacturing.dll" and the CP210X Serial Converter
6. Reconnect the Data Logger
7. Go to your Start Menu and run the "CP210X USB to Serial Converter" in the WeatherLink Group
8. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
9. Click on Ports
10. Click on Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge
11. Select properties
12. Click on Port Settings
13. Set to 19200 (if not already)
14. Note the Com Port number also
15. Procede with Cumulus Install

as I couldnt get it to link with cumulus and it worked fine “briefly”. It showed my station data on cumulus and when I closed it it came up with a “not responding message”. So I closed it ,did a restart of PC and tried gain. Still failed.

So I did a complete uninstall of both weatherlink and cumulus and tried again. As i had changed the connection setting on my weatherlink site to “serial” it is now the default when I try to do a reinstall of weatherlink. When I attempt to change it to USB (to bypass Cumulus) it says “no davis usb device connected. Attach just one davis USB device and try again”. I have tried the station in various USB ports (I have 6 on my pc) and done the uninstall/reinstall thing several times.

I am getting really cheesed off. Please help!

Regards Neal H.

........additionally I googled "cumulus 32701 error" and went into a forum discussion where I was advised to go and change a setting in my control panel which I did. Being that I am super clever with PC's I forgot what I changed and now need to reverse it so my pc identifies my Davis when plug in .Yep I'm an idiot and I need help so I can get this fantastic cumulus product working. Not to mention my davis!

Thanks in advance Neal H.

My understanding is that if you are using Windows 7 you will get much better results with the latest driver from Silicon Labs.

Thanks for your response and I'll have another go at it. Somehow I deleted the port for my station in the control panel but have since reinstated it and my davis is now connected to weatherlink. I do however want to get cumulus running. Your program will alow me to calibrate rainfall witout climbing a ladder and turning screws under the rain bucket for starters . I hope to get it up and running. I may yet be back for assistance.
