Webtag definition

Post by MarkB »

Steve

I'm working on an extension of Ritchie's WebTag XML referenced in https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=737. I couldn't help noticing there are one or two discrepancies between the webtag documentation in the Cumulus Help file and actuality :o  (not).

I know you added some new tags in a recent beta (which I have not downloaded yet, although I should). Do you have some kind of definitive list of tags that I could use? (Tell me to go away if this is too onerous 8-) )

I've added <#dawn> <#dusk> and <#daylight> recently, but those are in the help file. I had thought that the help file was up to date.

Attached is an edited extract of the tag processing code, which is certainly definitive, but doesn't tell you what they are. If you let me know which ones are missing from the help file, I'll add them. I know that the 'RC' ones aren't in the help file (they have decimal commas replaced by full stops, where necessary, for use by the gauges). I should probably mention them for completeness.

I confess to not having the latest help file. The one I am using is dated 18/2/09.
The attached file notes the differences.

I'll post a modified version of Ritchie's XML template shortly...

(PS - Apologies; daylightlength and dusk got missed out of my dif file)

Thanks. I've added these to the help:

realtimeinterval
rfallY
rollovertime

and fixed:

gustM documented as gustH

and also listed the 'RC' ones.

The remaining few in your list were in the latest help already.

I'm going to have fun with RC ones!

Here's my modified XML template. See https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=737 for instructions on how to use it.

I'm working on a JavaScript package to go with this that enables client-side dynamic update of weather data, but it's still in infancy at present. Watch this space. ;)

Check out my website if you want to see the WIP.

Addendum

I spotted a subtle error with the earlier upload. If you downloaded before 23:45 12 March 2009 GMT you need to consider the following:

The unit field has a prepended to it so you can concatenate the value and the unit for display. I was inconsistent in setting up the space. If you care about this then you need the version now attached, if you don't then you are OK with the one you got...

Further addendum

This is now deprecated. See this forum item for a more better version...

This is a rough and ready demonstration of how to use the webtag XML data file and JavaScript to make client-side dynamically updating pages for your Weather website.

You need to be slightly :geek: to do this - I assume you know what you are doing!
See the included readme.txt for installation  instructions.

All at your own risk. I don't expect it to break your server but if it does then it's your own fault  Don't come crying to me!

You can post to this thread or PM me if you feel the need.

Just tried using the new Tags.. Dawn Dusk and Daylight.
<#daylight> although giving an output on the display does not seem to output into a page. (the others do ok)

Sorry, typed the name incorrectly above, it's <#daylightlength>
