new user, problem with wh1080, lost outside temperature

Post by garethmob »

hello im new here, i bought a clos ohsen weather station from their online store as its £39.99, and iv been getting a few problems with it,

first seems to be the dropping of the outside temperature sensor at night (it sort of goes around 7ish or i assume when it gets cold enough) and comes back when it gets warm or not at all at times, iv reset both units, the weather station has duracel where the controler has procells

the main ussue is because theres no outside temp cumulas no longer reads data (i get the green flashing light but thats it), iv also nothced that the rain meter dosent seem to be working, and we havehad mega downpoors and nothing any ideas?

thanks for any help

How far apart are the console and transmitter? Presumably the console is losing contact with the transmitter, which is why there is no data in Cumulus when the temperatures goes; all of the outside data will be missing. This might also explain your rain gauge issue.

I don't know why the contact with the transmitter would be lost at night specifically; perhaps one of the hardware experts here can offer an explanation. It may be that your station is faulty; Fine Offset do not seem to have heard of the term "Quality Control".

the transmitter are litterly about 10 feet away, the transmitter is attached to a container and the receiver is in my caravan which it right next to it. iv only just noticed that now its gone dark the transmitter is flashing red every so often is it supposed to?

one thing though the receiver is showing the correct rain level now, and inside temperature and humidity and pressures but its just outside temperature

I believe so, yes, it flashes every time it transmits, every 48 seconds.

What do you see on the console and in Cumulus when the problem starts? Does the red error light flash on Cumulus (if it does, click on it, and it will show you the error).

Hi Gareth,

Edit: In view of your second post, the following may not be entirely relevant, but still try a similar procedure. If the transmitter is very close to the Console then try moving it further away. Yes, the Red LED should flash every 48 seconds, except perhaps for a few minutes around the hour (when the Radio Clock is being checked):

I think you need to be very methodical, just a faulty temperature sensor (particularly periodically) is very unusual.

First disconnect the Console from the PC, move it as near as practical to the transmitter, run it for 24 hours and then download to Cumulus if you wish. Then move the Console to its intended location and run for another day, again disconnected from the PC. Download to PC again and finally run with the PC connected. Ideally drop a little water into the rain gauge each day (or briefly plugging the Wind cable into the Rain socket should indicate lots of rain quickly).

Now it should be clear whether you have any transmission issues (lost contacts) or faulty sensors. You should also be able to confirm this data by interrogating the Console Log using its LCD and/or with Easyweather. Also, don't reset either the transmitter or console too frequently, I'm afraid it may take some days to determine exactly what's wrong.

Cheers, Alan.
