1 Hour - No Luck - Rain Rate Error

Post by Cambium »

After spending over an hour, copying, pasting, detleting, editing, changing batteries, clearing data on console, checking station itself,, I give up.

It did look normal at one point but then all of a sudden the rain total comes up again.

Does anyone have an idea why the High rain total comes up at any given time?
I also noticed the High temp is wrong (wasnt 90 at 4:45am).

I did lose sensor contact overnight but like I said, I cleared everything out and backed up from yesterdays file. For some reason the rain rate shows up voluntarily.

Everything else is correct and functions fine.

At midnight, your station's total rain counter (held in the transmitter) was the equivalent of 0.177 inches of rain. At 08:52, the rain counter was the equivalent of 3.177 inches. So at that point Cumulus was presumably displaying a rainfall figure for today of 3 inches.

7/24/2012 08:52:41.693 : EWUSB: Setting raindaystart from todayfile = 0.177165359258652
7/24/2012 08:52:41.693 : EWUSB: Raindaystart = 0.177165359258652
7/24/2012 08:52:41.693 : 8:52:41 AM EWUSB: Processing history data for = 7/24/2012 8:50:41 AM
7/24/2012 08:52:41.847 : Writing today.ini, LastUpdateTime = 7/24/2012 8:50:41 AM raindaystart = 0.177165359258652 rain counter = 3.17716526985168

I can't tell you where the 4.5 inches figure came from as it's from a point in time before the single diags file that you uploaded, but there will be a similar explanation. It looks like your rain counter went up and then down again.

I don't know why Fine Offset stations randomly add rain to the total (other than the simple cases caused by wind or whatever making the mechanism tip); I've written a lot of code to try to work around it. To correct today's total, you can use the built-in editor in Cumulus; similarly with the all-time records. You can use the 'spike' removal settings to prevent impossibly large rain rate and hourly rain figures being accepted in future.

Thanks, yeah, I'm getting fed up with them. As soon as I come across some money I'm going to upgrade, and donate to you. So I'm in the process of editing the errors and all of a sudden I change the High Daily rain total and it read the same amount right after. I did clear the memory of the console again. Maybe another battery pull of the transmitter?

You'll have to change today's total (Edit->Today's rain) before you can change the all-time record, otherwise it will be broken again straight away.

Thanks Steve. So I just got an offer from the weather station company, Tycon Systems, that they will issue me a full refund (even though its over a year old). They realize they replaced the transmitter too many times and things arent working out for me.

I should jump on this opportunity but Now my question to you is... Which station has worked best with Cumulus that costs under $200? And.. will it be a simple carry over & switch with the data?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with US prices, but I don't think you'll find anything else that works with Cumulus under $200. Perhaps an Oregon Scientific WMR100, which has no data logger, so you'd have to run Cumulus 24/7.

Yes.
