I understand you concerns, but according the manufacturer specs http://www.sensirion.com/fileadmin/user ... eet_V5.pdf (Page 4, section 1.7) only the top window is need to be exposed to elements.
Also, the whole sensor family can be seen at: http://www.sensirion.com/en/products/hu ... mperature/
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the window senses both temperature & humidity.
