Rain Gauge
On several occasions this week my Daily Rain has read 82.3mm; 49.2 ; 27.6; It has rained but nowhere in that amount. I edit the dayfile, and today's rain when it happens, but the question is why does it happen?

Re: Rain Gauge
Most likely cause is the rain gauge being moved somehow. If it's up in the air and windy or the birds decide it's a great perch, you'll get bogus rain. It should be mounted solidly somehow.

Re: Rain Gauge
I don't believe that is the case. Its been in the same position since installed on a pole driven 2ft into the ground, and as its visible from the house I have not seen any birds perching on it.

Re: Rain Gauge
I know most of the fine off set rain gauges the rain count begins at 0.3mm. Lets say we get a rainfall of 0.2mm at (9AM) then another rain event at (6PM) of 0.3 mm on the same day, will the fine off set add it up to 0.5mm......or if i add 0.2mm on the rain today editor then it rains another 0.3mm on my rain gauge during the day will cumulus add it up to 0.5mm.
I also noticed that when you add a amount on the cumulus editor (rain today) that it does not record it as the last rainfall when you pass the cursor over the cumulus board of rain today or on your personal weather site screen that says last rainfall.

Re: Rain Gauge
It only affects today's rainfall total; it's just too complicated to do anything else. You can stop Cumulus and edit the files if you want.iceberg wrote: I also noticed that when you add a amount on the cumulus editor (rain today) that it does not record it as the last rainfall when you pass the cursor over the cumulus board of rain today or on your personal weather site screen that says last rainfall.

Re: Rain Gauge
Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, the problem still exists, at present its raining heavily and has been since 0700hrs. but its recording NIL on all rain readings. Could it possibly the batteries are running low? Although all other readings temp. wind etc. are functioning.

Re: Rain Gauge
If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I can see what Cumulus is seeing as far as the rain total is concerned. But it does sound like your rain gauge is faulty. Presumably you've looked inside and checked for debris, spiders, etc?BJones wrote:Thanks for the responses. Re: Rain Gauge
Hi,
Water in the cables/connectors can certainly stop rain tips being recorded, but I thought your original problem was excessive readings, which is very unlikely to be due to damp cables (or low battery voltage).
It sounds as if the spider has now finished spinning her web on the see-saw buckets.
Cheers, Alan.

Re: Rain Gauge
The inside of the Gauge is fine with no debris etc. but this morning it registered 94.2mm with very little rain overnight.
Not being computer savvy I'm not sure what you mean by diags. file. All I can see is the dayfile, txt. and today's rain.
