Cumulus error prevents connection to WH1081

I have a WH1081 which I purchased in UK at a Maplin store. I have installed it and am using it with the Easyweather software however I wanted to broadcast my station's measurements as my locale is where Turkey's biggest shipyards are and it would be very much in use by ships coming in to anchor. However as I try to run the Cumulus program, I get
RUNTIME ERROR 217 005BCA6E, whatever that is. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

Googling suggests that error occurs when an exception happens before the exception handling has been initialised, so I'm afraid it's almost impossible for me to say what the problem is. This happened the first time you ran Cumulus after installing it? Have you tried rebooting and trying to run it again?

Hi Steve,

Here is what the error detail is (don't know if it means anything to you)
AppName: cumulus.exe AppVer: 1.9.2.1032 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 Offset: 00012afb

I tried the reboot etc with no avail. May it have anything to do with the fact that Easyweather is also running. (I had inactivated the Easyweather though)

Also I have sent a little something to indicate my appreciation for providing such a wonderful program at your own expense.

You shouldn't run Easyweather at the same time, and you should use the Fine Offset station type. But presumably you haven't got as far as choosing a station type, as it crashes before you get to the station settings screen?

Which version have you installed? 1.9.2 build 1032?

Hi Steve,

I completely uninstalled EasyWeather and re-installed Cumulus. It gives me the same error. I would appreciate your help. I googled it and got this:

Unable to open FMS, runtime error 217
Finance, FMS .May 10
2012.
Issue: Getting runtime error 217 at 0002659E when logging into FMS

Reason: This is caused when their is no printer available to FMS

I have 2 printers on the net connected to this terminal.

Any suggestions?

I googled it too, and it clearly occurs with lots of different software; there are hundreds of hits but I didn't find a solution anywhere. There was a suggestion in one place that the problem was something to do with anti-virus, and elsewhere that it was connected with hardware drivers. Unfortunately the error apparently occurs before any of the Cumulus code (that is, code that I wrote) gets executed, so I'm afraid I can't think of anything to suggest. Are there any files in the Cumulus diags folder? Is there a bugreport.txt file in the main Cumulus folder?

You could try installing the 1.9.3 beta (download link in the announcements section) but I think that's unlikely to help.

Yes there is a bugreport file which I am attaching however it pertains to my installation the first time. There are not any for the latest attempts to install.

I'm very confused now. The file you've uploaded is from Cumulus 2. Are you trying to run that? The version in the message you quote says "AppVer: 1.9.2.1032" which is definitely Cumulus 1. Also, when you say:
There are not any for the latest attempts to install.
do you get the error message that you quoted originally when you try to install Cumulus, or run Cumulus after you've installed it?

Here is what happened. I tried to run Cumulus but could not so I asked my IT guy to have a look. He did somethings and he was not successfull either. I guess he must have tried to install another versin and that is why you see that message. But although a bugreport file was prepared for that other version, bo report has been prepared for the version I am trying to install. I don't know if that tells you anything.

Do you reckon I should try the new beta version?

I forgot to add that I am getting the runtime error while trying to install the software however due to error, installation is not completed.

But the error message you quoted refers to cumulus.exe, which is Cumulus, not to CumulusSetup.exe, which is the installer. Perhaps you could describe exactly what you do before you get the error message?

In your website http://www.sandaysoft.com I do not see a section called announcements. Under the section called News, there is no reference to 1.9.3. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks for the help nitrx but nothing changes. However, I noticed something: Should I not be seeing my WH1081 in the Control Panel of my computer? I can not see it or I do not understand the name under which it appears. Any help possible with this?

It appears as a 'Human Interface Device', and not in any form that you would recognise unless you knew what to look for.
