Steve, the Vantage Console image points to the wrong link!
Without modifications, when an address without a 'precise' file name is given (such as '
http://cm2weather.dyndns.tv/Davis'), Apache will check for a bunch of file names (such as, by default, 'index.php', 'index.pl', 'index.cgi', 'index.asp', 'index.shtml', 'index.html', 'index.htm', etc...) before giving up and just displaying the directory listing (the list of all the files and all directories in that directory), such as what happened when I connected to you local server - not good.
This is and will be for the next days/months/years a learning experience...

...may I suggest, before you venture yourself too far (such as modifying the templates to add a lot of stuff), that you start using some simple basic web design guidelines (rules).

Thanks Ray,
Not sure why it did not show the correct webpage correctly, as it was going to the right place.
I've corrected that now with putting a .htaccess file in there.
To be honest I've not really modded the templates that much.
I've started adding a few bits to the fly out menu, but can't get them to display.
If you look at the site map they are blanked out.
I think it's something to do with the wx type, I've set it to CU which I thought was Cumulas but it didn't seem to work.
I've also went through adding loads mo webpage to CU-Defs so I can do the monthly records, but then though I probably didn't need to do each month as an individual tag?
What I have are lots of tags loading up with names like JanHT FebHT MarHT etc etc for high temps, and the same for low temp etc.
Thinking about it could it have been done with some logic, or did each one need to be individually classed.
And example of the page that it will go to is
http://www.cm2weather.dyndns.tv/Davis/June.php
Really appreciate all your help and feed back, as you say steep learning curve for me, just wish I had more time to experiment.

Steve, one advice...
I do hope it is possible with DynDNS (I know it is possible with No-IP) ... when my home server goes down (ie: the server is not accessible by/from/to No-IP), rather than forcing the users to wait and wait and to eventually get a message that the page cannot be loaded, the users are automatically re-directed to one of my online weather web site - the users might not get the exact web site they were looking for but the get a web site...
SJG1976 wrote:I've corrected that now with putting a .htaccess file in there.
Steve, I do not understand why you think using an '.htaccess' control file was the way to correct the problem - as I previously wrote, by default (and without an '.htaccess' control file) Apache should allow access to 'index.php', 'index.pl', 'index.cgi', 'index.asp', 'index.shtml', 'index.html', 'index.htm', etc. I have been only been using an '.htaccess' control file to 'filter' regions and sites...
At this time, I could not access your home server ... I could not check anything else...

Ray,
Thanks for that.
I'll have to look into that a bit more.
I've uploaded the details now to the main site.
http://www.cm2weather.co.uk. (Forthe site selection)
http://www.cm2weather.co.uk/Davis (For the Davais Station)
http://www.cm2weather.co.ik/Oregon (For the Oregon Station)
Yes the site selection page needs a lot more work on it, also found on uploading that they Handel files slightly differently.
One the home served files, my PC takes the directory /Davis/Forescast/images the same as /Davis/forecast/images
So needed to change the case of the directories, took me a while to figure that one out.
Not sure about the forwarding on Dynadns, but the laptop had crashed, so that's probably why you couldn't access it. That was only ever going to be used for Dev work anyway.
It should be up again now unless someone's turned it off to save the planet again
I'd be more than happy to set a redirect to your site if I'm able too, failing that I'll link across in one of the side menus.
If I figure out how to add them correctly so they display.
Steve

Steve, a little problem here - look at the link for the Oregon station - I get a 'Domain not found!' message - should it not be 'http://www.cm2weather.co.
uk/' rather than 'http://www.cm2weather.co.
ik/'!
SJG1976 wrote:I'd be more than happy to set a redirect to your site if I'm able too, failing that I'll link across in one of the side menus.
No do not do that! Why should you redirect to my site - if DynDNS allows you to set a redirect when the home server is off or disconnected, it should be to your own online site...

Steve, what are you talking/writing about ... you got me lost!
One important thing you must remember with hosting servers (on your computer or online) - there is a difference between uppercase and lowercase letters, so, for the server software, a file with the name 'New' is different than a file with the name 'new'...

Whoops yes it should be

I'm talking about the menubar to the left.
I'm adding entries into the flyout-menu.xml, but they are not displaying on the main screen.
When I look at the Website map I have too blank entried in there.
•Almanac◦Station Graphs
◦
◦
◦NOAA reports
◦Sun/Moon Almanac
◦Earthquake activity
◦Nearby METAR Reports
The 2 blank entries should be
Code: Select all
-<item title="Trends, Sun/Moon, Earthquakes" caption="Almanac">
<item link="wxtrends.php" caption="Weather Trends" wxonly="WD,MH"/>
<item link="wxgraphs.php" caption="Station Graphs" wxonly="WD,VWS,WL,CU,MH,WCT,WV"/>
<item link="wxcurecords.php" wxonly="CU,VWS,WL,WV" captions="Station Records"/>
<item link="wxcumontly.php" wxonly="CU,VWS,WL,WV" captions="Montly Records"/>
<item link="wxnoaaclimatereports.php" caption="NOAA reports" wxonly="CU,VWS,WL,WV"/>
<item link="wxastronomy.php" caption="Sun/Moon Almanac"/>
<item link="wxquake.php" caption="Earthquake activity"/>
<item link="wxmetar.php" caption="Nearby METAR Reports"/>
<!-- <item caption="UK Earthquakes" link="wxquakeUK.php"/> -->

Yes found that bit out..

Quick update.....
Moved away from the freewebhost and gone to 1and1
Much quicker access now, and when I go to FTP no errors,
Even got some free tools and a additional Domain name.
Will have more of a play when I get more time at the weekend.
Steve.

Steve, goo move to 1&1 - been with them for years without major problem.
By the way, Steve, when you are replying to a message, there is certainly no need to quote the complete/full messages and to just type a few words...

Yes 1&1 have made a big difference in the speed of loading pages etc.
Also got a new Domain Name as well, so have both
http://www.cm2weather.co.uk
http://www.chelmsfordweather.co.uk
Both pointing to the same place...
And the quotes bit.... Sorry about that, using an iPad and cutting and pasting whilst laying in bed isn't much fun..
Found out why they flyoutmenu-XML wasn't working too well, as I'd missed some closing tags....
Whoops.
Very pleased with them myself so far,as I was getting really fed up of not being able to FTP or access the User Control Panel.

Steve, I understand that 1&1 cost more money than a free hosting service provider...

...but they offer a solid and reliable product. I do not know which package you got, but all of my packages offer unlimited web space and unlimited traffic volume (I have 2 regular and 1 business packages with about a dozen+ domain names hosted on their servers).

Yes, decided I'd go for an unlimited one as well.
Another reason for moving away from the free hosting, I was getting very near my allowed usage for this month.
Just been looking at your iPhone pages, are you using Cumulas to update them or WD?
I downloaded the templates but they seem like they'd rely on the clientraw.txt files.
Whilst I'm sure I could adapt the daily files, not sure how well I'd do for the hourly, and daily ones.
Just had confirmation that my Raspberry Pi is being shipped, so another thing to learn, (and get APACHE on)

Steve, from which site?
I have the [link removed] script running with (as the name indicates) Cumulus and the [link removed] scripts running with Weather Display.

Ray,
That answers my question really..
It was the WDL one, wasn't sure if that site was also running off Cumulus as well.
I see your iPhone on Cumulus has been adapted for PHP though.
Does that Autoupdate the data, or is that done on user page refreshes?
Steve

Steve, the script on my Cumulus pages is the iCumulus script (and not related at all with the iPhone script on my Weather Display pages - two different scripts by two different designers).
I see your iPhone on Cumulus has been adapted for PHP though. ... Does that Autoupdate the data, or is that done on user page refreshes?
It has been a long time since I looked at the iCumulus script ... I think it was originally released as a combination of HTML/JavaScript components - I have converted much of the HTML code to PHP and reformatted some of the JavaScript.
When the iCumulus script is activated, the webtags it contains are replaced by data values (that what PHP does best). It also appear that one of the JavaScript might be reading the 'realtime.txt' data file every so many seconds. Unfortunately, I cannot remember if or when the data read from the 'realtime.txt' data file replaces the data obtained from/with PHP.

Thanks Ray,
Another question if I may.
With your 1&1 Hosting.
Are you Linux or Windows.
I'm hvaing problems getting AJAX Scripts to work.
Looking now on the hosting it doesn't seem they support it...
Are you on the Windows or Linux Version?
As I'm on the Linux Version and looks like only the Windows version supports it.
Steve
(oh and my Pi has just arrived)
