Hi
due to some luck we are now about to purchase a Vantage Pro2, there was a question i would like to ask, as i was reading through the consul manual pdf i came across a piece stating " If your anemomometer arm is not pointing true north, you should callibrate the wind direction reading on your console" it then explains how to do that, does this mean you have to set the vane pointing true north and check on the console and adjust?
if someone could please explain i would be gratefull.
Also on the windcup build it shows a drip ring but following the instructions to connect the wind cups to the shaft it does not mention the drip ring or where it fits if anyone who has built the mentioned up where does the drip ring fit please.
thanks

Re: Davis vantage pro 2
Regarding the anemometer arm calibration I couldn't have mine pointed due north so I determined where due west was (using Google maps), pointed the arm there and made the adjustment on the console. From memory set it to -90.
The drip ring goes between the wind cups and the anemometer control head with the wider part of the drip ring at the bottom nearest the cups. See page 1 of the Davis ISS Manual.
You've chosen well. The VP2 is a great piece of kit.

Re: Davis vantage pro 2
thanks for that, looking foward to getting it. i have another question that i should have asked due to the building it is going on having restrictions about the fixing i need to know the diameter of the pole the vantage pro2 fits on i assume from the pdf that they supply 2 u bolts but it does not state the size they are, i will have to source some stainless steel ones as the station is only 20 meters from the high tide mark.

Many of your questions could be answered by having a look at the Davis Instruments web site:

Ray, it is so nice when one takes the time to search for and read the documentation...
...more so when one is about to purchase such an expensive (and very reliable I must add) weather station.
