Green light...Red light...

Just a quick question...
Earlier today I decided I really should switch my firewall back on...and a short while after I noticed both the red & green lights on in Cumulus.
Don't know if it is related but thought I'd better mention it.
Closed & restarted Cumulus and the red error light is no longer but then again the green light does not flash as it did before either?
I have turned the firewall back off but it hasn't re-started the green lighs flashing again eevry few seconds...
It looks like the files are being ftp'd OK...the realtime.txt every 5 seconds and the *.htm & images every 5 minutes as normal.
But no green light.
Is that a sign of impending doom?
Thanks & kind regards,
-=Glyn=-

Hi
Green light for New Record on click you get the list.
Red light for error on click you get the error.

Hello GlynH..
As mentioned above by aadal...that is what the green and red lights mean, but to explain it a bit further...
The green light flashes when a record has been set. if you click on that green light it brings up list of your records. once you have brought up the list I believe the green light stops flashing for awhile or until another record has been set.
as for the red light, if you click on it, it shows any error's and also the list, once you close the list the light normally stays off a while or until there is a new error. sometimes it takes awhile before the lights will every flash again.
whenever you reboot cumulus, the lights normally stay off awhile also. this is also normal.
as for you having your firewall OFF..I dont know why you do this because you should leave it on. With the firewall on and then when starting cumulus, when it ask's to unblock the cumulus program, just allow this.
you could also manually go into your firewall setting's screen and set Cumulus.exe as an "Exception" on the exception list. this way your firewall is on protecting your computer, but is allowing cumulus to run.
I am assuming you are using WindowsXp?
...hope this info helps you out...Chris

Thanks for the replies guys,
Maybe I didn't make myself clear...I know what the lights actually mean...the clue is in the words New Record & Error adjacent to the Green & Red lights respectively...
Ths problem that I may have is that ever since I installed Cumulus the green light has been flashing constantly showing data is being received/recorded or whatever.
Then earlier today I noticed the red light was on constantly (can't remember the status of the green one) so I closed & restarted Cumulus.
That cured the constant red light but now the green light never flashes any more.
Not sure if this is normal or not...
Thanks & regards,

My green light has not flashed for about a month,, Im sure mine will be flashing like mad once warmer weather gets here (whenever that will be

)
In regards to the red light, there must of been a error with something as you stated "it went off once you restarted the application" just keep an eye on it, and when if flashes again just have a look at what's caused it.

err..... It would seem not !
The green light flashes when a new 'All Time' has been found, and will continue to flash until you 'view' the 'All Time Records'. Then the light extinguishes until a new 'All Time' record has been found.
The red light came on when you closed the door for Cumulus to ftp by switching on your firewall.

err..... It would seem so !
Thanks again for taking the time to reply guys...its good to know that it isn't a problem.
It was strange though...I mean the green light had been constantly flashing ever since installing Cumulus - obvious really because everything it received/recorded was a record.
The thing is I never, ever clicked on the flashing green light...I never even knew it was possible until the first replies in this thread!
It just seemed to extinguish on its own (following a reboot after the red light had come on - maybe coincidence...maybe not...) which led me to believe something had broken.
BTW I had the firewall off temporarily because I was trying to track down a couple of network issues. For some reason the SMDR on my PBX had stopped collecting call data and in a seperate issue the same server had stopped streaming live CCTV to my iPhone- now sorted.
The firewall is now back on with no exception having been added for Cumulus but no repeat of the red light issue either and everything seems to be working so maybe something else caused the glitch?
Nothing to worry about then it seems...don't worry I will soon find something else!
A couple of friends have now got interested in the weather and I have convinced them Cumulus is the way to go...I would imagine what with the price of the Maplin kit you could expect a flurry of new users soon...
Thanks & regards,

As you say, when you start up you will be breaking new records all the time. The green light continues to flash until you click on it or restart Cumulus. Same with the red light. Once lit, they just flash at a set interval (half a second or something), a single flash isn't meant to be indicative of anything. The red light will start flashing from time to time anyway; you're bound to have the odd failed upload. Nothing to worry about unless there are lots of errors indicated when you click on it.

It must have been a glitch of some sort...the red light was constantly illuminated - not flashing at all.
As I say a restart 'cured' it and it seems to be behaving itself since...
The green light is flashing again and I see a new high temp of 11c - is summer here already?
Time to get the 'bike out...
Thanks & regards,
