Legacy Cumulus 1 release 1.9.4 (build 1099) - 28 November 2014
(a patch is available for 1.9.4 build 1099 that extends the date range of drop-down menus to 2030)

It's a common problem with recent Fine Offset stations - there are lots of threads about this already. You will probably have to reset the station (remove batteries and disconnect USB) to get it going again.
Hi Steve,
I am relatively new in the world of weatherstations, and only started using mine (from day 1 with your software) a few months ago.
Your answer helped me to get things running again, after I experienced this same problem (using same hardware), however the reset is not really a fix.
My weather station is at a remote unmanned location (accessbile through VPN). It seems every 3-4 weeks it requires a hard-reset.
Any advice on how to really solve the problem?
I realize this is not really a Cumulus problem, but would you have any advice on finding a better solution than driving to the site and doing a hard reset?
There is no known solution. An idea I saw on Jim Easterbrook's forum (for his pywws software) was to connect the station to a powered USB hub, and then devise a method of power cycling the hub, thus resetting the station (don't put batteries in it), but I have no idea how you might arrange this in practice.
Jim and some of his users are doing some experimenting with the timing of reading the data from the station, to see if they can prevent it locking up. Hopefully something will come from that and I can look at doing something in Cumulus also.

I wondered if you had been following that discussion

I'd offer to help with some experimentation via Cumulus, but (a) I don't really feel up to it at the moment (and I don't fully understand what it is you're doing), and (b) my Fine Offset doesn't lock up anyway.
I am using a little Flepo mini PC (DT 166) strictly for Cumulus, which is apparently powerfuill enough to power the base station, without having it run on batteries. Thanks for the tip.
I will now try to run scheduled periodic reboots (on a weekly basis?), so the base resets, without running into problems.
It´s a bit of a dirty work-around, but hopefully it´ll do.
