I replaced my LaCrosse 2308 with an Oregon Scientific WMR88

Post by Mortgun »

I replaced my LaCrosse 2308 with an Oregon Scientific WMR88 and I am unhappy with the WMR88.

Is there a LaCrosse weather station, currently manufactured, that works with Cumulus? I liked my 2308 much more than the WMR88, but it had a serial port and serial/USB adapters don't work well with Cumulus and the 2308.

The La Crosse does work with Cumulus, but maybe not the best. The 2300’s that works with Cumulus has to run as Serial, which is annoying. Serial to USB adapters can be trouble, I have been fortunate to not have trouble with my adapter. It’s a good station made well, but not so good with the pc connection and the spikes.

Note that the serial/USB problem with the WS23xx is not specific to Cumulus, it's a well-known issue with these stations. See http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/ ... Converters

The WS23xx is the only LaCrosse supported by Cumulus; I won't be adding support for any other stations.

Thanks for supporting the 23xx models Steve! It's appreciated by us guys that don't have the budget for the higher end units.

You really have two options if you want to use these type of stations.
Either install a real serial port card in the PC (they're pretty cheap to buy), or, try one of these drivers from here http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/supportDo ... =85&Page=0. I'm running the Prolific 3.3.17.203 version without any problems, touch wood (taps head ;) ).

Good luck!
