A Davis Vue compatability query

I'm a little confused - so bear with me....
I'm shortly going to get a Davis Vue and weatherlogger. If I have a computer with USB ports, but NO serial ones, am I correct in thinking the way to go is to get the USB edition of the weatherlogger and then the software convertor - or should I get the serial version and some sort of port emulator?
Apologies if it already blindingly obvious!!
Cheers

The straightforward solution would be to get the USB version and use it with the virtual serial port driver (so it then appears to software like Cumulus as if it were a serial version). If you get the serial version, you would need to install a serial card, or a serial to USB adapter, and that seems a lot of trouble to go to.

I can supply you with a usb datalogger that uses the more reliable FTDI chipset for £55. It is compatible with both weatherlink and cumulus.

Many thanks Steve - I had read through many of the threads, but got slightly confused on the way. Thanks for the clarification.
Cheers

Perhaps you could let me have details - and if anyone else has used your device, could they comment please?

follow this
link to the WXforum "build your own datalogger thread.
it has AFAIK been used on VP1, VP2, envoy, Vue.
The USB logger has the same logging capabilities as a Davis branded logger. I have delivered around 30 so far, to the following countries;
USA
Australia
New Zealand
Spain
Norway
Wales

I'm just waiting for mine to arrive, so will let you know when I receive it, but I have only read good comments about it.
Mine will be used in a VP1 however, that's been cobbled together.

Got my logger set up yesterday, very simple to install, and seems to be working flawlessly.
Would highly recommend getting one.
I've now set up a sub domain foe the Davis Station, with the live weather data on there.
Still very much a work in progress at the moment.
