The Rain Invention problem

Post by profzarkov »

Hi

I know there's a FAQ on this (http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#My_sta ... it_to_zero)
But although I try this method the invented rain just seems to hang around.
I had some imaginery rain yesterday at 06:10. So I zero'd the rain in the yesterday.ini and also corrected the today.ini as per the instructions but it still remains.
It's also in the records, for this month and the all-time ones.
I know I can edit the records now but what was the previous record to set it back to?
I know this is an inherent station problem and Cumulus, magnificent beastie that is is, has to deal with these anomalies but it would be great if there was a rain spike removal (my version doesn't include rain as a spike in the cal settings?) or an easier way to roll back things.
Maybe I'm in error here or missing something but as I supply weather info to my local village & area, I'd like to get things right.
Cheers
Steve

You don't say which version/build of Cumulus you're using. Later builds of 1.9.2 include a 'today's rain' editor, so you don't need to edit today.ini. There are several ways of getting previous records back - correct the log files and then use the built-in editors; look in alltimelog.txt for the entries which show the record changes; look in the backup folders for the .ini files containing the records from before the problem occurred and replace the existing ones.

Later version of Cumulus also try even harder to cope with and ignore large increases in rain totals, and also have 'spike removal' facilities for rain rate and rain in last hour. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, and tell me what incorrect figures you got, I may be able to see why it didn't cope in this particular case - assuming you're using a reasonably up to date version.

To be honest, I've just about had enough of adding more and more code to try to cope with these cheap stations' faults (and in one recent complaining post it seems that Cumulus is getting the blame for the garbage!). I would much rather be adding new facilities than fighting a losing battle against bad input data.

Hi Steve
Yes, I know it is frustrating. I'll have another go & also keep my versions up to date.
It's been up there working for over 3 years now so happy with its performance for only £70!!
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
Steve
