How to get Cumulus Data on to Pachube/Cosm

Post by oztds »

I just thought I would share my successful experiment today for the benefit of others.
Cosm, formerly Pachube, allows one to keep time-series graphs of just about anything. I keep my Solar electric generation, power consumption and other things there, but thought there must be a way to send weather data from Cumulus there. Cumulus doen't provide an interface to Cosm (http://www.cosm.com), but there is a way via Twitter. Cosm accepts CSV data sent via Twitter.
Steps are:
1) Have or create a twitter account
2) Register your twitter account with Cosm - directions here: http://apps.pachube.com/pachtweet/
3) You need to set up a data feed on Cosm to match the data you want to send from Cumulus and note the feed_id
4) Set up the twitter.txt file in the cumulus folder to send the data in the correct format - along the lines of the following:
dm @pachtweet set feed_id <#press>,<#hum>,<#rfall>,<#temp>,<#wspeed>
dm @pachtweet tells twitter to send a direct message to the cosm twitter feed
set feed_id is a command to send the data to the feed_id on Cosm
the Cumulus tags shown are the ones I used, but of course any can be used as long as it all fits in a tweet (limit 140 chars)
5) That's it - enjoy watching the graphs which are accessible from any browser and hopefully there will be some more apps in the fullness of time for mobile devices. Hubcape for iPhone seems OK.

I don't suppose you know of any way of sending multiple tweets?

I have a dedicated twitter account for the weather station so my main account isn't spamming everyone else with my weather :) I would also like Pachaube to log at a higher resolution than once per hour, but sending them both would be a huge start.
