Newbie - no help needed

Folks,

As a newbie to both Cumulus on the web and html generally, I thought it might be useful to describe my experience of getting Cumulus on my website. I think that it is especially pertinent to folk just starting out and those that seem to post after finding their first problem.

What I did

• Updated to latest version of Cumulus

• Applied Synewave's refresh script ( here )

• Uploaded and applied realtime pages

• Uploaded and applied SteelSeries gauges

How I did it
Since I am very new to html I found the following useful:

• downloaded all of the relevant zip files into a single area

• printed the readme.txt files and highlighted the relevant sections I would need to do

• read and then re-read the readme.txt files and looked at the html etc files as I was reading the readme

• made a backup copy of everything

• made sure I had a few hours set-a-side to do everything

• read through all of the relevant topics/postings on here to pick-up any "tips"

In the event it only took two hours to do all of the above (I am sure the experts here could have done it in a fraction of the time). By following the instructions I was able to do what I wanted without reverting to posting a "help" topic on the forum. I did make a couple of mistakes but these were generally typos.

So the advice to any newbies is that you can do it and fairly easily too!

Your approach is very similar to the one I used when I set up my web site last year. I knew nothing about html or web pages and spent many hours reading the various forums, the wiki, and other online resources.

Nice website. I especially like the link to FlightRadar24.

I looked at your all-time records and the rainfall ones look a little 'extreme'. 104" of rain in a single day will get you into the Guiness Book of Records! I'm not sure why they're so odd for a Davis but you might want to look at editing them.

Very good advice for anyone starting out, it not hard, I though it would be too hard to do. While I failrly new to website development, I had never done this before but still I have been able to do it. For me anyway one of the most important things is backups, it's such a relief when you mess it up to put it back right with the old version.

And your site looks good.

My approach was similar, albeit more trial and error to begin with.

I certainly agree with backing everything up. It's save me hours of work!
