Comms error

Post by andrew.eastland »

I have been running Cumulus for a number of years now without problem but after a recent power fail it will no longer connect to the device.

Easyweather works fine and has been running without issue for a few weeks now since Cumulus stopped working.

I have tried updating Cumulus to the latest version with no effect and I have now completely re-installed Cumulus onto a second PC with a fresh installation of Win XP, but it still gives the same error. Easyweather works fine on the new setup.

I have copied the Cumulus log entry below.

I believe Cumulus is expecting to see a 55 aa at the start of the data stream which is why it is dropping the connection, but this unit has been working fine for a number of years previously with Cumulus so why has it suddenly changed and does anyone know how I can get it back working with Cumulus? I have already done all the resets, both from Easyweather and from the panel and I have also let it run with Easyweather for a month to flush through the memory, but nothing will clear the error with Cumulus.

Any help/ideas appreciated.

That's correct; those are the values that indicate that the station has been initialised correctly. If a full reset of the station hasn't corrected the problem, you can override the check; see the FAQ: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#When_I ... ialised.22

Thanks Steve, that has stopped the error occurring but I am not getting any data through either. Everything is just staying at 0. Log extract below shows we read pressure at least but screen shows pressure at 0000.

Edit cumulus.ini and add a line to the [Station] section:

Logging=1

This turns on the debug log by default.

Run Cumulus for a few minutes, then close it. Zip up the diags folder and attach it here, together with the debug.log file.

I added that line and then when I restarted it burst into life. It has updated the min/max records with some realistic looking figures but is now showing 0's again in all the current values although the two trend fields have non zero figures.

It seems that the EWdisablecheckinit setting doesn't actually help, because the same check is done each time new data is read. It's odd that no-one else has ever reported this; I guess they've fixed the problem by resetting the station. I've put a fix into the next build of 1.9.3.

Ok thanks for the help. Is there any way to reset the station to factory? I have done the memory clear described in the user manual and also done the reset from Easyweather but neither helped.

The way to reset the station is to remove the power - remove the batteries and disconnect the USB cable.
