Hi
Like many of you, I'm a newbie to weather stations, websites and so on. I've managed to get things recording and logging OK, with some help from Steve and others, but now I'm having problems with updating the website. I've gone through the instructions and I believe I've got things set up correctly. I've noticed in some posts that Steve has asked for the realtimeftp.log file so I've attached that in case it helps.
I'm also not sure whether I should be adding any files under the 'Files' tab? Should the standard pages be added here, the instructions don't make it clear.
As ever, any help appreciated!
Mex

Re: Website updating issues
That one's normally only useful for diagnosing realtime update problems; it's the ftplog.txt file that's helpful for the 'normal' uploads. However, there is a clue there:mexico wrote:I've noticed in some posts that Steve has asked for the realtimeftp.log file so I've attached that in case it helps.

So 'weather' isn't the path to your weather directory. What you need on the front of that depends on the details of your hosting, but often it will be something like wwwroot/ or htdocs/ or similar.
You're right, it's not completely clear; but I'd have thought the presence of the settings 'include standard files' and 'include standard images' should give a clue. I'll change the help file to be more specific; but the answer is that you shouldn't include the standard files in the list.I'm also not sure whether I should be adding any files under the 'Files' tab? Should the standard pages be added here, the instructions don't make it clear

Re: Website updating issues
Hi Steve
This was definitely not a criticism of Cumulus, or help files. I think it's a great program and my knowledge is what is letting me down. I have checked and my site does have a structure which includes htdocs, so I've tried that, but still no success. Please see ftplog.txt attached for further info.
Thanks,
Mex

Re: Website updating issues
For some reason I can't download that, it comes out zero length. I think there was a problem at Dreamhost (where all or stuff is hosted) last night, which may be the problem. Could you try attaching it again, please?mexico wrote:I have checked and my site does have a structure which includes htdocs, so I've tried that, but still no success. Have you now got htdocs/weather as the ftp directory?

Yes, I now have htdocs\weather as my folder. I'll try and attach the file again to see if that sheds any light on the issue.
Thanks,
Mex

It should probably be a forward slash.
Steve

but this advisory:
23:48:02:875 >| Upload your website files in this directory.|
Suggests that there is no need to declare htdocs.
On the assumption that the 'weather' directory has been previously created through user panel or whatever, then the setting in Cumulus for the directory would be:
/weather
... maybe

Re: Website updating issues
Yes, that would appear so.beteljuice wrote:but this advisory:

Normally it's safer not to include the leading slash, as I've seen web hosting where, when you log in, you're not actually at the root of the filesystem. Including the leading slash implies that you are.On the assumption that the 'weather' directory has been previously created through user panel or whatever, then the setting in Cumulus for the directory would be:
/weather
... maybe
In this case, we've already seen that just 'weather' isn't the correct path, so I don't really understand the message from the server. Unless... Mex - you said you'd followed the instructions; you didn't perhaps miss out the crucial first step: create the directory?

As appears to be the case here ! - I hadn't considered that.. Normally it's safer not to include the leading slash, as I've seen web hosting where, when you log in, you're not actually at the root of the filesystem. Including the leading slash implies that you are.

Hi Guys
Thought I would let you know that having not gone near the site for two weeks, tried again tonight and it worked almost straightaway using a setting I had previously tried. Thanks for all your help.
