Uk based davis anemometer repair service

Post by belfryboy »

I am looking at offering a repair service for VP1 and VP2 anemometers.

The service will based on; repair broken reed switch (zero/intermittant) wind speed, repair faulty direction pot or repair both. I do not currenlty have a ready supply to repair broken wind vanes or cups, but if I can find a supplier, that is cheap enough, I may also offer this as a service.

If you are interested PM for a quote.

Its a pity you are not based in Queensland Australia as you would have my vantage Vue to be repaired, or rather get up on our roof and change the battery, but I guess I am going to have to get up there myself and stop being a girls blouse, anyhow you idea is very worthy I hope you get some business good luck.
Cheers

I used to do this for Davis, as a UK service agent, but I now work for a different firm. I saw a gap out there and thought I'd give it a go.

Just a little short of cash at the moment I have to buy battery for my Vue, I see you are not having the best weather at the moment we are having a cold snap as well I think it got down to 25 degrees time for the jackets I guess

Don't joke about that sort of thing! Last week in Redcar temperatures reached a balmy 9 degees! Close to 200 people died of heat exhaustion!

Well I am happy to report all is ok, the battery has been changed and readings are being received at the console, I was not aware that the battery was not being recharged by the solar panel, then again if there is no battery what does the solar panel do, when there is ample sunlight, surely it must still give the ISS enough power to transmit????????
Thanks to everyone for the input, greatly appreciated, if any of you are in Australia please drop in, you are all welcome.

Cheers

The problems I had with my Vantage Vue started from the beginning when I purchased it through Scientific Sales in New Jersy, un be knowing to me that I should have bought one in Australia as the US model is illegal in Australia. I then had it converted at great expense to me. I made a complaint to Davis in California outlying everything that took place, their reply was they will talk to Scientific Sales...GREAT! Then I started getting battery problems, so again I had it serviced and I was informed that there was a problem with the first models that was produced GREAT again! so again I located the thread re the VUE battery problems and the soloution was to apply dielectric grease to the terminals then recently fior the last 3 months i have been receiving message " Low battery trans 3" so you can understand my frustration a tad. Next station will be a VP2.

I think it is an excellent idea. I would have liked someone to go one step further. Something like an annual maintenance service, where your equipment can be cleaned checked and calibrated. Unfortunately I have no ladders long enough to access my roof and even if I did I don,t think I would want to go up. When it comes to the time to change a anemometer or take it down for whatever reason, the only person I can think of to do the job is an aerial erector. But as soon as you mention to them it is a weather centre they try to think of every excuse they can to get out of it. It.is very difficult to get people to do such jobs.

I need a new or second hand temperature sensorfor my VP1 Wireless as it is faulty.

Is this something you might be able to provide?

Thanks for replying.Thought that might be the answer. I think my only option would be to try and source a full 2nd hand staion.

Belfryboy,

I would certainly be interested in your services when the time comes. Clearly my anemometer won't last forever and I was under the false impression that my UK supplier could service my station. But I can't find any reference to servicing so I need to look elsewhere.

What other parts of the VP2 can you service?
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I am quite happy to service the rain gauge tipping bucket, and I hope to soon offer an alternative to the Davis T/H sensor. I am able to replace the sensor on an existing T/H board also.
