ISS not transmitting
I have a Vantage Vue which is located on top of a building, since last Friday I have not been receiving any data from the ISS, I have been through all the trouble shooting suggestions, also i have spoken to Ecowatch in Victoria where I was advised to remove the battery in the ISS replace it and hold the LED button in for 20 secs and then push it again. The problem is I am very warey of getting up on top of this roof I try to limit my access. My question has anyone had this problem with their ISS and how was it rectified.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, i have had nothing but trouble with this product since i purchased it, my next choice would be a Vantage Pro2.

Re: ISS not transmitting
I have a VP2, and the problem often arises not long before heavy rain- the ants move in! I have to manually remove them and their eggs, then it starts working again.

Re: ISS not transmitting
How old is the unit?
According to Davis, the battery in the ISS should last for approximately 9 months (depending on the sun/placement etc).
I've had no problems with mine, although I've only had it set up for 3 months.
Have you changed the battery yet? I'd do this first and hopefully the ISS will work again.
Cheers
Johnny

Re: ISS not transmitting
My battery is still perfectly good after 2 1/2 years, perhaps the solar cell keeps it more fully charged here. 9 months seems a very short life for a rechargeable battery.

Thanks guys for your input, I guess the bottom line is I will have face my fears and get up on the roof and change the battery go through the motions as suggested by Ecowatch techincal people.

Re: ISS not transmitting
Gordon, a little clarification/correction: The battery inside either the Vantage Pro2 or the Vantage Vue ISS is not rechargeable - it is a 3-volt Lithium battery (as stated in the installation manual).Gordon-Loomberah wrote:My battery is still perfectly good after 2 1/2 years, perhaps the solar cell keeps it more fully charged here.
I am not too sure about the Vantage Vue ISS, but on the Vantage Pro2 ISS, when there is enough sunlight, the solar panel recharges the 'Supercap' (super capacitor); when there is not enough sunlight, the 3-volt Lithium battery recharges the 'Supercap'.
Brian, you have not replied to the question! I have been looking through old message threads on the WXforum site and a few years back (2009), there was a problem with the Vantage Vue ISS short battery life time - I am not saying/writing that you are encountering the same problem ... but, you might want to have a look/read at the 'Battery failures on Vantage Vue' thread.Johnny25 wrote:How old is the unit?

Re: ISS not transmitting
I had a look today, and you are correct Ray, it is indeed non-rechargeable. Nevertheless, it is still going strong after 2 1/2 years and it's been through some extended cloudy periods in that time, due to a particulrly strong La Nina weather pattern the past 2 years.

Re: ISS not transmitting
Gordon, my Vantage Pro2 weather station is locate on the north-western slope of Mount Tzouhalem (at about 150 meters ASL - the mountain top is approximately at 536 meters ASL), on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada - the ISS is still using the original battery installed some 6 years ago (was last checked in December)...

Re: ISS not transmitting
Davis actually say 'typical battery life is about 18 months'
9 months without any sunlight.
Greater than two years with average solar charging.

Re: ISS not transmitting
Did you manage to sort the problem ?
The reason I ask is my ISS failed completely today! Changed battery etc and still not response.
Unfortunately the company I bought if from can't help until next week. Oh well.
Anyone on the forum with a vantage Vue with any ideas what may have happened?
Cheers
Johnny.

yes I did get it sorted out, by changing the bateries. I have heard that if you turn everything off and start from scratch, it will fire up the ISS. Have you checked the battery, as i brought a new battery and found it was stuffed as well. Best of luck i know how frustrating it is.

Re: ISS not transmitting
My Manual for the Davis Vue say's 8 months without sunlight, or greater than two years on solar charging, my first battery lasted a year, this one has been going for a year and 5 months....Johnny25 wrote:How old is the unit?

Thanks for the reply - pleased you managed to sort out the battery issues.
Not sure what happened to the ISS. The dealer recommended what you suggested, take the battery out and leave the ISS for a few hours. This seemed to have sorted the problem for the time being. I did not use a new battery.
Anyway, managed to get the ISS set up again, but still don't know why it stopped working in the first place. From reading other forums, a number of Vue owners appear to have suffered similar problems.

How old is your unit, as I also heard that Davis had problems with the first lot they made, if you search this fourm under "low battery" there is several good pieces of info available.
Just out of interest hows the weather where you are, the sea tempreture has dropped to 23 degrees its starting to get a bit cold, not use to this cold weather at all.
Cheers
