Monsoon recorded

Hello everyone,
Errr, I have dropped a bit of a conker and could do with some help.
I have today repositioned my rain gauge, but foolishly forgot to disconnect it first  . The upshot of my stupidity is that Cumulus has recorded monsoon rainfall.
Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to remove this spurious reading. Its not the end of the world but it is annoying. Made more so by it being my own fault
Any help preferably in terms that a halfwit such as myself can understand would be very gratefully recieved.
Cheers Dave

You'll need to edit Feb09log.txt (format is in the help file) to remove the spurious rain, and then edit today.ini to set the Start= value to the correct figure. You can work out this from the rain counter in the last entries in Feb09log.txt file, which is the current counter from the station. So the value you set in today.ini is the current counter minus however much rain has really fallen today. You may also need to use the all-time record editor if your high rainfall records have been affected.

If you need any more detail, just ask and I'll take you through it. I should really write a guide to editing the data files but never seem to get around to it.

Hi Steve,
Well I have really managed to make a hash of that.
I have absolutely no idea how I have done it but somehow I have managed to delete all my data files. One minute I was looking in the ini file, then poof! screen flickered, went off, came back on and no data files at all, gone, vanished. I rebooted in the vain hope that all might be restored but alas nothing.
Its weird, Cumulus is working fine but obviously there are no records. Its as if I have just installed it. I am wondering if it was something I did or if it was maybe some sort of power cut. I really cant think what I might have done to cause such a disaster. the only bright point is that I have only had the station up and running for about three weeks, so at least I haven't lost too much data. But what concerns me is if I didnt cause it. What did and is it likely to do it again. I know one thing. I wish i'd never moved that bloody rain gauge.
Thanks anyway for your help. Im just sorry I didnt manage to carry out your instructions. I am now going off to sulk for a little while.

I've got a backup directory under Cumulus on my computer here... I didn't do anything to make it happen so it's very likely you have one too!
Copy the files from the latest backup folder into your data directory and hopefully Cumulus will read the missing data from your stations data logger (if it has one)
Maybe take a copy of your data folder beforehand just in case though!
Hope that helps

From your description, it sounds unlikely that it could have been anything you did, it does sound like a hardware glitch, possibly related to the power. Perhaps the data files got corrupted because you were editing a file in that directory at the time.
As Greebo points out, there are backups taken every time you start Cumulus. You could have a look in the backup folder to see what's in there.

Hi guys,
I have had a look at the backup files, but there doesn't appear to be anything before the time I re started Cumulus after the incident so I'm thinking that they too have vanished into the ether. i am begining to think that perhaps it was some sort of power failure or surge although there is a surge protector in the power supply to the pc. i noticed this morning that one of our electric clocks was flashing which it does after a power cut. Maybe as you suggested Steve, I was just unlucky to be inside the files at the time. Like I say all is well now apart from no records. The most annoying thing is knowing that it was my fault in the first place.
Thanks again for the help though. Dave

It's strange that your older backup files have gone too. You don't use Vista, by any chance?
