Getting a not found error

Post by water01 »

I am getting an error on my website saying "File does not exist: /home/dmjsyste/public_html/weather/info.gif, referer: http://www.dmjsystems.co.uk/weather/gauges.htm".
Well that is certainly true it doesn't exist but I have checked the uploaded gauges.htm and it doesn't contain a reference to info.gif and I cannot find an info.gif anywhere in the web folder.
Very puzzled as to what is the problem.

Sorry didn't make myself clear, error is not appearing when the page is loaded i.e in the web page, but is being logged by my web server when it runs gauges.htm.

[Sat Mar 10 20:23:22 2012] [error] [client 94.194.24.76] File does not exist: /home/dmjsyste/public_html/weather/info.gif, referer: http://www.dmjsystems.co.uk/weather/gauges.htm

Did a search for info.gif and appears to be in the source for boxover.js which is in the dbimages folder.

Indeed, the error you see in your log file is produced by the 'boxover.js' script looking for an image file called 'info.gif'.

You need an image file such as
info.gif
and place it in the same folder where the 'boxover.js' script is located.

Many thanks Ray, I wonder how many other people have this happening and do not realise it?

Boxover.js is supplied in the dbimages folder so not a having a copy of info.gif anyway in the download is surely going to cause most people to have the same error and you only realise it if you look at your web server log.

The boxover.js supplied with the gauges didn't come with an info.gif, and a search shows other people using boxover.js who have also queried the lack of the file. Boxover no longer appears to be supported and the gauges don't appear to use the file anyway.

Hello Steve, I realise the gauges.htm is not using the info.gif but boxover.js is definitely doing so and it causes an error in your server error log, as I found when I was checking my Cpanel Error Log for my server web space. Since gauges.htm uses the boxover script I guess that is why it is logged as the referer in the error log.
Putting that info.gif that Ray supplied into the by Cumulus root directory removed the error for me, but I guess it could be anything as long as it is called info.gif :D :D .
