Chris,
First thing would be to open the Cumulus [Help] [Creating a web site] and making sure you follow each step will get you up pretty quick with the standard Cumulus web pages. You may need something like Filezilla (free) for the initial files upload to your site. Then customization to your liking... The Cumulus Wiki will also be helpful.

Initially a little daunting for a beginner, but really quite simple with a little bit of patience and asking for help when you run into a roadblock :?

~Hi Paul,
I have filezila and like i say a domain (www.goose157.info) lol went for their cheapest offer £2:12 for the year!!
But now i think i need a host/web space or something??
I looked at the wiki and it says something about folders that i will have info on from the host provider? - i do not have this yet.
Do i have to set this up as well??
Sorry but i am totally lost in the world of ftp/host/domain etc...
Cheers,

To help us help you, copy the information that they would have given you (bar password), also your provider, as a few on here probably have already dealt with the same.

Chris, this is a poor excuse for not searching by yourself on ways to setup a website - all the information you need to know/read about is readily available on the Internet - Google and Bing are you friends - use them to search - enter search texts such as 'setting a website for beginners' or 'setting up a website for dummies'... ;)

And the answer to your question is YES you do have to buy a hosting package and associate it with the domain you bought.

A Domain is just your physical web address i.e. www.yourdomain.com is does not provide space on a server to upload your files and data to, the hosting package does that.

Chris,
Sorry I had missed giving that information in my first reply. Since I use Godaddy for both the domain and web hosting I had just assumed  that you too had both, but you did mention only about buying your domain. Hopefully you can now get on the right track, and enjoy.

Thanks Paul, it does look like i am going on a bit about the web stuff but i really am rubbish!!
Every time i read about dsn, ftp, host etc my eyes glaze over and my brain refuses to understand, must be an age thing.

I will get there eventually, another thing is my reluctance to part with a few quid into the unknown internet 'black hole'
But i suppose no pain no gain....
Cheers

I know what you mean as I still don't understand most of the jargon that seems so natural to the many knowledgeable people here. But with trial and error and some very helpful hints I progress and you will too.
I will get there eventually
Glad you've got that positive attitude.
another thing is my reluctance to part with a few quid into the unknown internet 'black hole'
While it looks like there are some free hosting services I just decided to use a well known brand and the cost is not too great compared to the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment one realizes :)

When I was at about the stage you are now I printed off some of the Godaddy help topics which I found to be most helpful - i.e. Third Party Web Site Creation and FTP Documentation for Your Shared Hosting Account Web Site http://help.godaddy.com/topic/80/article/4554
