w-8681-st1 solar reading

Post by rorymotorbiker »

Am I correct when I say the W-8681 does not support the downloading of solar readings from the solar charger and is just that, a solar charger for the internal batteries. If it does support data I can't seem to get it to work, everything else is working as it should.
I would like to add that the Cumulus software is very impressive indeed.

It's somewhat confusing because W&S have used the same model number so it's not clear whether it has solar sensors or just a solar charger. If it's this model:

http://www.wsplc.com/acatalog/W-8681-SO ... itter.html

then that page says it does have UV and Lux sensors, so it should be able to display them, and if you configure the station type in Cumulus as 'Fine Offset with Uv/Light sensor' then Cumulus should be able to read the solar data from the station.

Had some spare time today so i dismantled the solar charger, but did not find any electonics at all just the solar panel connected via 2 wires only, thru the plug which also carries the rain gauge data. I think the blurb which describes what is in the box is a bit ambiguous as i quote from the instruction sheet supplied with the solar unit.
This wireless transmitter uses solar energy to recharge it's internal AA size rechargeable batteries. this product will power all the sensors connected to it and transmit the data to the main unit.
It does not say transmit the uv data. I've read elsewhere in the forum that there is an extra processor in the solar unit but did not find any in mine so there must be different models available.
Thanks for any info all the same.
