web set up

Help!
I really want to set up a weather page but I am a complete novice at the whole internet ftp stuff.
I downloaded filezila and am now at a loss what to do with it. I have tried to follow the wiki guide but I don't know what I am doing lol!
Is there a janet and john setup guide anywhere for a complete internet virgin?

I have a windows 7 laptop
my weather station is a Maplins n96gy.
Thanks

I purchased a domain and web hosting from godaddy. Once my account was set up, I was able to input the ftp login details in filezilla. Then I uploaded all the files which it says in the wiki and voila!!

I did try looking for free web hosts etc but I got absolutely nowhere and in the end I thought the only reliable thing would be to buy some space and domain from godaddy.

I have the same weather station and I am absoloutely loving it!!

Thank you for the quick reply...I will have to have a look around for a 'host, if that is what it takes....like you too I am enjoying fiddling around with the station....(though I think the wife thinks I am bonkers!)
P.s
Just as it happens finished fixing the outdoor sensors to a short pole onto my shed.
The height is around 12ft off the ground, the problem is for me that where I live is surrounded by trees so from what I have read my wind speed/direction will be limited....
Cheers

Try to find hosting which has good support, instructions and tutorials on how to create web sites. Each host is different and it's not always possible to give exact instructions on what to do. make sure they allow ftp uploads and they don't simply provide 'site builder' web sites. There's a section in the wiki with some recommendations for hosting, but I don't know how current it is.

The pointer on the wind direction should point to the direction the wind is coming from, you may need to turn the wind vane 180 degree around so that when the pointer is pointing North the unit is recording it as North.

I can recommend Vidahost who have a Basic Package that will support a Cumulus web site for £27 for 2 years hosting. Full Cpanel access and FTP access. https://www.vidahost.com/web-hosting/pa ... ic-package

I use Hostgator.com to host my site. The FTP panel is simple to use and I'm not that clued up on website building etc.

If you are using the Firefox browser, try their FTP too (Firefox add on). It's straight forward to link to Hostgator to get the files across from Cumulus.

I would recommend UKServers for Hosting and 1&1 for your domain name :)

UKServers Basic Package - £20 a year, includes 250mb webspace, 5gb Per Month Traffic, 10 Mail Boxes, MySQL + PHP (Upto 5 Databases), 2 FTP Users + Locking and UK Support!

1&1 Domains also very cheap and reliable.

Harwich Weather + Weeley Weather UK are two websites alone which use UKServers.

I myself use 1&1 Domains as stated above :)
