Setting up my Weather Wise WS 1080

Hello,

I recently purchased a Weather Wise WS 1080. At first I set up the Easy Weather program that came with the unit. But then I read in the manual that they suggest also trying Cumulus. I have a couple newbie questions.

I see I have a choice to set the station type to Easy Weather or Fine Offset. The instructions indicate that it's preferred to use the Fine Offset setting. What is the difference? Is it that on Easy Weather, it reads the data from Easy Weather's .dat file and on Fine Offset it reads the station's memory? Isn't it all be the same data pretty much?

I also want to make sure, if the Cumulus software isn't running for a while, or I turn off my computer at night, the next time open Cumulus, it will grab all the data from the missing time period in either setting (station Easy Weather vs. Fine Offset), correct?

Is there any problem running both Easy Weather and Cumulus on the same computer?

Yes, that's right.

Isn't it all be the same data pretty much?

No. When reading the station directly, Cumulus gets every update, every 48 seconds. If it's using the easyweather.dat file, it only gets data recorded every 5 minutes at best. Another disadvantage of the easyweather.dat method is that you have to run Cumulus all the time, it won't catch up again if you stop it for any length of time.

Only with the direct Fine Offset setting.

Is there any problem running both Easy Weather and Cumulus on the same computer?

No, as long as you don't try to have them both running at the same time, with Cumulus in direct Fine Offset mode.

I have the Weather Wise WS 1080 too and the only program running is the Cumulus on the fine offset. The one thing that i noticed is that the solar rad is not showing up on the main display but when i do a select a graph all the data is going to it though. Is there a way to fix that for the WS 1080.

I don't think the WS1080 has solar sensors, does it?

Max solar rad is a calculated theoretical value based on your location and the date and time; it's the highest reading that your sensor could be giving at any particular time, if you had one.
