W8681 - cannot download data via USB

Post by kodi »

The receiver unit was working flawlessly for last 3 years. Lately I had to move it to another place and unfortunately it occurred it was in range of kids. So it fell down from about a meter to the floor. It still receives the data from the transmitter, but I cannot download the data from it via USB. I tried the Cumulus and Easy weather. When I unplug and plug it again, I can hear a silent click of the relay and there is new HID device detected in the device manager. It even has correct ID. In Easy Weather I'm just getting the cannot connect to the device message, and Cumulus log ends with:

It's being recognised by Windows, but isn't responding to commands. A reset (remove USB cable and batteries) often fixes this.

It was off without batteries for about a week. Still no joy:

Perhaps the console landed badly for the usb cable connection....it may have broken where the socket is soldered to the PCBd internally.

Resoldered it. Still the same, though :(

Looks like I have to buy a replacement. Is the new base station (like the one on this picture:
Image)
compatible with the W-8681-ST1 transmitter, or should I just buy the same as I have :

Hi,

No the new "solar" console is NOT compatible with the earlier transmitters.

Also (depending on your location) you need to ensure that the console receiver uses the same radio frequency (it could be 433, 868 or 915 MHz) as the transmitter.

Cheers, Alan.
