Website set up help

Post by sunseeker »

I am a newbie trying to setup my website but confess to lacking the knowledge to complete the operation successfully.
I have followed the simple website instructions from Cumulus Wiki and uploaded the necessary files to my hosts server, however when I open my domain www.corfemullenweather.co.uk all I see is a list of files thus: Index of files/ and beneath this a list of 10 files.
I have configured the internet settings within Cumulus to connect to my hostname and if I do a web update from Cumulus the ftp progress window shows the correct directory is being opened and that data is being uploaded.
I am obviously missing a link ( no joke intended!!) or have a configuration issue and would appreciate some pointers to resolve my problem

Thanks in advance and apologies for being a complete numskull

The ftp progress window can't be relied on to show that things are working, it's just there to show that things are happening.

The most likely cause of your problem is that you have specified the ftp directory incorrectly. If you turn on the ftp logging, the ftplog.txt file should show any error messages.

Hi Mike.

As Steve says, it looks like you putting to the wrong place.

We dont know which 'host' your using but with Virgin Media the files go to a location called /htdocs/

I would be happy to talk you thru the process. Just let me know the hosts name so i can look up the details.

There is loads of sstuff on the forum including my input.

My site looks like this .. http://www.philcdav.webspace.virginmedi ... ather.html

It looks very complicated but be assured, it really is very straightforwrd. Note I didnt say easy !
