What do you run Cumulus on?

Post by Darknstormy »

Hi Guys and Girls,

What do you use to run your weather server?

I run a dedicated computer, Its a Hp ProLiant Microserver that is connected to my TV, so I watch my movies, play music through it aswell, its my data backup unit as well, Sadly atm I don't run it 24/7 due to the modem owner likes to turn it off when were aren't home. But it should have its own USB dongle soon.. so hopefully I can run 24/7.

I used to run it on my laptop, but it was a pain in the butt, having a usb cable plugged in to it all the time.

I run a dedicated laptop, an old HP pavilion dv4000. I run it 24/7 to run Cumulus, my webcam software, TiVo s/w and to backup all the other PC's here onto shared drives.

I use a Toshiba Satellite laptop (Win 7, AMD Sempron 2.1GHz) running 24/7, dedicated to running Cumulus & Weatherlink, and data logging (@1 second) my off-grid solar and wind power system with a Graphtec GL-200.

Solorize Your setup sounds great... sure got a bit going on..

Gordon-Loomberah does your off grid solar and wind power, power just you PC for you weather? How do you store and transform the power you to usable energy?

hills - what webcam software do you use... as I'm looking at pretty much the same setup as you?

No, I'm not connected to the grid at all for house or anything else, like the MIG welder, various pumps and other large electrical equipment.
At the moment the power is stored in 8 * 420AH L16 Trojan batteries @ 24V, output @ 230V with a 4kW Latronics Inverter, I'm planning on storing a bit more power with pumped hydro power in the near future- 24000 litres @85m head.
There's a time lapse animation of the solar panels in action near the top of my web page.

That is very cool.

I run Cumulus on my main system, which is already on 24/7. It's a small mini-itx system with an i7 2600k cpu, and a 12V power supply which runs off a home-made ups with a 100AH SLA battery.
