Hi,

To celebrate that 12th language join The Cumulus Translation Team, (see : https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6608)
I've send a link to my latest and finest Template.... Weather Sunset!
Depends on reactions, this template will go farther in its development!

Hi Jacques,

Great work again, you've surpassed yourself!
Now, here's a challenge for you......
What about a website that changes it's look depending on the current weather conditions. So, if it's sunny outside, it uses a sunny template, if it's raining, it'll be grey and miserable looking, maybe at night it goes into a dark and moody look, snow will be very white etc...
Actually I've just realised, the idea is all very well, but those in hot sunny climates, it'd always be a sunny look, and those in more temperate climates, it would be often grey and miserable looking......
Ah well, it was just a thought.

Oh is it possible to wish something, I'll thought Christmas already have been.

But OK.
For me it would be enough if the picture in the header change with the weather, not the whole template.
But I want some more.
Make the template dynamic (PHP).
And a new graph would be real nice, a one that looks like that on that Heenka has in the Nordic Weather Network.
With that one it is possible to follow the values over a period of 90 days.

Source for it is here: http://www.highcharts.com/download

Now Jacques you have something too thinking about.
Please make my wish came true. ;) :D

No Jason - the ones you have on your site are the old 'Sparkline' graphics - Kenneth was really pointing at the highly modern and quite interactive Highcharts - just have a look at the Highcharts Demo Gallery to have an idea of what can be done with those Highcharts.

Here is a practical use of the Highcharts: Station graphs (I also use those graphics on my site, but, as I am in the process of rebuilding my home/office computer network, the reliability of the internal server is not that great... ). The scripts needed to produced those graphics are available from the author's site WU Graphs

Ah sorry Ray, I meant to specify that the link was related to the Dynamic Header

Though thank you for the info and links :)

Jason, the Highcharts can/could be used on your site (PHP is required). ;)

The WU Graphs scripts can be used with any weather software as the data needed to produce the graphics is downloaded from the Weather Underground site - obviously, Cumulus must already be uploading some data to the Weather Underground site... :)

I have been helping Mark (one of the numerous Mark on the forums :D ) with his site and he encountered some difficulties getting the graphics to display within a page/template without error. The script cannot simply be added to a page/template through the use of a 'include ();' PHP statement! The best way to get the graphics to display properly was to copy/cut the code found in the 'wugraphs.php' script and pate it into a new (preformatted for the site) template, removing a large number of HTML tags.

If one also uses Weather Display, then data saved into a MySQL database as well as a file containing hourly data can be used instead of the data downloaded from the Weather Underground site.

Hi Jason about the header.
Something like that but not exactly, my thought was to use, say four pictures for background that change over time (like the four seasons) and on top of that a layer with the weather conditions (rain, snow, and what else that can be done).
And if that would be enough, some thing that reflects the wind, what say about a little house in the corner with some wind sensors on top that show how hard the wind blows.

And make all of that change from night to day with a little twilight.
Thats what I'm thinking about.

Hi Ray
Weather Display  ? Doesn't all of us use Cumulus. :D
Isn't it possible with some tweaking or what you want to call it to make something like that work with cumulus.
Why send data to WU and then get them back?
Then WU change some thing or blocks some IP and you get no result.

Nothing short of the graphs in the cumulus, but these are the more living and even more practical to extend over a longer period of time.

Kenneth, I use both software, WD to produce the data for my official weather web sites (been using WD since 2004) and Cumulus to produce the data used for my development web sites (been using Cumulus since 2009).

Unfortunately, I did not designed the WU Graphs... One of the reasons (I think) why Radomir Luza has chosen Weather Underground as the data supplier was that the service offers good historical data retention.

I looked at some of the scripts used to produced the graphics and just decided to use the data from Weather Underground (data easily available - to use the data produced by Cumulus would need more than 'tweaks', more like an almost complete rewrite of many of the scripts) - once I get my computer network fully setup, I will activate the MySQL option of WD - I might also look at the possibility of developing a compatible MySQL database using data from Cumulus.

The only problem with these graphs and Cumulus is you do not get the past hour of data, only with WD as the graphs do not use WU for this time period.
I might also look at the possibility of developing a compatible MySQL database using data from Cumulus.
Problem solved ;) .

And apperently it is possible: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... aphs+mysql

Hi,

Surely, I'll work on a "Graphs expansion pack" in near future.
I have already worked with HighCharts on an other project and there is a lot to do with that library!
I plan it with a link to data tables, like that we will have all details about any "dot" of a graph;
each "dot" could have a tooltip windows and/or a link. I think of 2 versions; with or without MySql database.

But for now, I do templates. My main goal is to have many "modular" templates.
Depending on user skill, you run template in plain mode or add some modules to enhance your site.
Then the look of your site will depend on your taste... not on your skills!

But, there is a lot to do before that. For now :
- That thread is for 3rd templare, Weather Sunset!
- A 4th template is "on oven" status,
- "Language pack" is near, with it's 12 languages!
- Cumulus standard template translation will join the pack.

Then a lot to put in place, but endless fun will begin soon!

Jacques
