Its been a while.. now problems

Post by TrOjAn »

First Hi to all, its been ages since I came here, the weather station has been fine? up until now.

Apparently it has not sent info for 2 months, lol, just goes to show how often I check.

The station is at the back of the garden and has a laptop it connects to running WinXP, when I checked there was some errors on it so I rebooted, when Cumulus starts it hangs at the "downloading data" and never finnish`s, this then locks up the laptop after a day or so.

Is there anything I can do to get past this error?

Thanks, Terry

If you're still running 1.8.8 as in your banner, the first thing you need to do is update to the latest Cumulus ;)

Your station may need resetting to get it talking to the PC again (remove batteries, disconnect USB cable). Your data might look a little odd if you have a 2 month gap (unfortunately resetting will clear the logger).

Updated,

cleared the base, reconnected and it starts to download the data then hangs at the attached error.

That's not an error, it's just telling you which logger address it's reading; it will be trying to read the data back to the last time it was run, but it should cope as it should recognise uninitialised data in the logger and stop. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look.

It looks like somehow the reset didn't clear the station memory, just the current pointer, so it's downloading all the data back to October. It's unlikely that the data will actually be correct (it's not timestamped, so the timestamps that Cumulus calculates won't match the time the data was actually logged). I think the best thing to do is to edit today.ini and change the 'timestamp' to the current date and time (make sure you keep the same format). You'll have a gap in your data and maybe some odd entries to clean up, but I'm afraid that's unavoidable.
