Anemometer Freezing up

Post by Jsears »

We got a little icy rain lastnight, and now, my anemometer is frozen, and won't show the wind speed or direction. This has never really happened before that I have noticed. Is there some way to keep this from happening or is it something that just happens with no good fix?

Thanks beteljuice..

When I get the chance, I get it down and inspect it. If it's ice around the outside perimeter of the unit, the skirt might take care of it. If it's condensation somewhere inside the housing, I doubt that a skirt would help. I'm wondering if something like an aerosol defroster, like you use on car door locks would work long term, or it would just thaw it for the time being and then refreeze?

In one of the links you gave me, someone mentioned Ferrosol. I have never heard of this, so I don't know if it's available here in the US. I'll have to do a little investigating to see what's available here.

Thanks again for your help..

Happened to me in October during the rare winter storm we had that gave up a foot of snow. I went out and "cracked" it enough so they could freely move and the sun took care of the rest. I'll be doing the same tomorrow morning after the freezing rain tonight.
