Rapidfire versus 1 min

Post by doug.nebert »

I am using Cumulus to send updates from my Ambient WS-1080 system to Weather Underground. I note that the interval setting cannot be less than one minute, and yet there is an option for Rapid Fire, which is every few seconds. I have set both Rapid Fire and a 1 min interval.

In monitoring the WU website, I see that from a Rapid Fire point of view, that transmissions are made at about every 30 secs - is there a way to set it to support more frequent views so that Rapid Fire works, say on a 5-sec update?

What settings should I have for Rapid Fire?

Cumulus uses a 5-second interval for WU rapid fire (I think this is the figure WU recommend).

But with Rapid Fire 'on' the minimum frequency for update in the Cumulus software is 1 min. It will not take decimal points.

The New Record light is showing about every two seconds, but the Rapid Fire view "Flash" version seems up update about every 20-30 secs.

I will assume that it is feeding rapid fire regardless of the posting frequency, with "Rapid Fire" as ON. Can anyone confirm this?

As it says in the help, when you have rapid fire selected, the supplied interval is ignored, it updates once every five seconds (more precisely, it waits five seconds after each WU response before sending the next update); this interval is not configurable. I've just turned on rapid fire and it is indeed updating every five seconds - if you watch the status bar you should see that it says 'updating weather underground' approximately every five seconds. Can you confirm that?

If it's not updating every 5 seconds, then WU are probably in overload, as they seem to be from time to time. If you turn on the debug log, you'll see the Cumulus updates and how long it takes WU to respond, and any errors that come back from WU.

As your weather station only updates every 48 seconds, I'm wondering why you want 5 second updates to WU anyway?
