Windows Home Server - Help Please

I would like to attach my WMR928NX to my home server, then have Cumulus upload it's data to the \\server\websites\weather directory so I can view the data on my home network.
Trouble is I don't really know what to put in the cumulus ftp settings or if that is the correct way to achieve what I want!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Simply install Cumulus on Windows Home Server and use the same ftp paameters as you would from any other computer on your network. You need to get to the "server" system not just the server "console" to do this. The easiest is by using "Remote Desktop." If you have difficulties just let me know and I will try and step you through. By the way I have been running Cumulus this way for over six months. In fact I have it running as a "service." that way if the power goes out and the system shuts down Cumulus starts automatically upon restart without me having to start it from the Start menu.
Unfortunately my system is down right now because of a faulty Oregon 968 box and I am traveling in the USA. I have picked up a new 968 and will get everything running again upon my return to Spain February 21.
Let me know how you are doing and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Hola gwheelo,
Thanks for the reply, I too live in Spain!
In the hostname I have tried \\Server, Server and 192.168.1.2
and in the Directory I have tried WebSites\Weather and \WebSites\Weather
I just get connect timeout when I press update web.
Many thanks.

Have you set up remote access for Home server and a URL such as xxxx.homeserver.com or remote access via "remote Desktop"?
There is another way to access the server files from a client but I have forgotten exactly how - I will try and find out and will get back to you.
Where are yo located in Spain?

Use Remote Desktop Connection from the Accessories group in windows, not the remote connection assistant. In the connect box use "server". Your account is Administrator and the password is not the windows password but the original password you set and use with the connection assistant. You'll be able to get to the desktop of the server this way and run the software.
When you reach the Desktop Internet Explorer will be open showing a warning about screwing up the system files. Simply close it and you will be on the server Desktop.
Or you can use IE to download Cumulus. I usually download to the Desktop but any location will do. From that point simply install Cumulus and configure it as you would on any other system.. When you get that running we can go through running as a "Service" if you are interested. The biggest problen with running as a Service is that you will not see the Cumulus Console or have access to it without stopping the Service and starting Cumulus the nomal way.
Keep me up to date and don't forget to ask questions - that is one of the best features of this forum - everyone is extraordinarily helpful.

Hi George,
I am not sure if we are talking at cross purposes here.
I can get on to my server as it is not headless.
I have installed cumulus and it runs/works.
What I want to do is have it update and upload it's data to a local directory on the server so that other machines on my lan can run it on the intranet.
I am interested in running Cumulus as a service. I do have an add-in for WHS which allows you to run most things as a service, is this the correct way to proceed.
Sorry if I have missed your point and got the wrong end of the stick!
Regards,

Yes - it seems we are talking right past each other.
OK cumulus is running on your Home Server -
Do you want to see the Cumulus console on your networked computers or do you want to upload the html files to them?
It is my understanding that there is no way to achieve the first method. I believe this is on the wish list for Cumulus II.
You can of course upload the html files to a virtual server on your system or a to web site and make them available to your network computers via your browser.
Am I getting closer to your requirements?
I have used "Anyservice" to install Cumulus as a service. It is easy and without problems. Remember what I said above. Once running as a service the Cumulus console is not available to display.

not true!
if you go to the cumulus "service" and click on the "logon" tab, there is a tickbox to allow it to interact with the desktop
works for me

Hi George,
This One:
You can of course upload the html files to a virtual server on your system or a to web site and make them available to your network computers via your browser.
This is what I would like to achieve, so that i can for example, just key https:\\server\weather in any browser on my network and see my weather station. But I am not sure how to procede. I thought this functionality was in Cumulus.
Thanks GTB for the tip also.

As I mentioned before I think you will have to install a virtual server on the Homeserver or use a website to serve the html files output by Cumulus. Then your network clients can display those html files. The Cumulus "Console" will be available only on the computer on which it is installed - as far as I know. Perhaps someone else has a way of displaying the Cumulus "Console" on network clients.
You can use the virtual server that comes with Microsoft Expression Web, Adobe Dreamweaver, or I am sure there are some free applications available on the web.
I am afraid I am not much help with your request - perhaps you might wish to start a new thread such as "How to display Cumulus Console on a Network?" to get some answers from the really smart members.

I think this thread has got lost in its tracks.
The OP has never wanted to have remote console access, he wants to be able to FTP his files :

I don't have any experience with Home Server, but with 'normal' server 2003, it is a matter of enabling the FTP server service and pointing that to a folder that IIS can service.
However, Steve has made a change to the system that doesn't need the FTP upload, the files get stored locally (in fact the htm files are always retained)
It's just a matter of getting the IIS to see the files - job done !
I expect you will ask how to setup IIS next
