Why is the data read every 10:th second?

I have a 1080-station and the Cumulus data is read every 10:th second.
Does this data stay in some kind of a temp-file or something because the log is not every 10:th second?
Can I modify this 10:th second?

The Fine Offset stations update their data every 48 seconds. Cumulus doesn't know when it's going to update, so it reads the data every 10 seconds so that it gets the updated data within a reasonable time.
