Problem getting website up and running.

Post by spider1946 »

As far as I know I have opened the correct folder (weather) and sub-folders (images and dbimages) and uploaded all the files listed in Cumulus help website set-up in the appropriate folders.
On visiting my site:-
http://www.coatingstalk.com/weather
the following comes up:-

Index of /weather
CumulusRealtime.swf
dbimages/
images/
weatherstyle.css
wz_jsgraphics.js
Apache/2.2.17 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at http://www.coatingstalk.com Port 80

All the files are in "dbimages" and the single picture file is in "images" - the rest you can see above.
Something is missing but.......................?

Thanks in anticipation

The bits that are missing are the pages with the actual data which Cumulus uploads automatically. Have you configured Cumulus to do this? If you have, then the most likely explanation is that you have configured the ftp directory incorrectly.

Well if I have missed some files I am struggling to work out which ones and missing from which folder.
The instructions in the help file are as follows:-

In your web root folder, create the following folder and file structure:

weather (folder)
weatherstyle.css
wz_jsgraphics.js
CumulusRealtime.swf
images (folder)
picture.jpg
dbimages (folder)
barometer2.gif
boxover.js
cloudbase.gif
dashboard.js
Falling.gif
humidl.gif
humids.gif
rainl10.gif
rainl100.gif
rainl200.gif
rainl400.gif
rains10.gif
rains100.gif
rains200.gif
rains400.gif
Rising.gif
Steady.gif
thermol.gif
thermos.gif
windrose10.gif
windrose120.gif
windrose20.gif
windrose40.gif
windrose80.gif

And that is exactly what I have loaded up on the website!

Noting your "missing" files comment below I tried adding the HTM pages in "Originals" but no difference except for the fact that the URL now produces:-

Index of /weather
Parent Directory
CumulusRealtime.swf
dbimages/
gaugesT.htm
images/
indexT.htm
recordT.htm
thismonthT.htm
thisyearT.htm
todayT.htm
trendsT.htm
weatherstyle.css
wz_jsgraphics.js
yesterdayT.htm
Apache/2.2.17 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.coatingstalk.com Port 80

A change which is not altogether surprising.

So where are "the pages of actual data" you refer to?

Sorry to be so apparently ignorant; although I do have experience build websites I am not familiar with this interactive bit; so bear with me.

Incidentally, this problem aside, I am very impressed with Cumulus.

Regards,

Andrew

You are uploading the template files (indexT.* etc) and NOT the 'worked on' files (index.* etc).

I'm surprised this wasn't picked up before - but you need to change your FTP settings in Cumulus to transfer the 'worked on' files (can't thnk of another name, too early in the morning :) ) and NOT the template files.

So on the LHS you would have something like:

c:\cumulus\data\indexT.htm

and on the RHS:

c:\cumulus\data\index.htm

Also - you need to look at shutting off directory listings on your web site - it's a big security hole and leaves your site open to being, let's just say, hacked...

They're the pages which Cumulus automatically generates and uploads - when you tell it to. As you're using the 'standard' web pages, all you need to do is supply the correct information as described in the 'configuration' section on this page in the wiki: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Simple_Website_setup
