Error message The station is not initialised

Post by Anderski »

Can you help us? The Cumulus program is not reading our Ambient Weather 2080. We got it set up and was reading fine and reporting to our Wunderground.com station and then flatlined and will not read our WS2080. Ambient Weather suggested we contact you. Please help!!

The first two bytes of the station's memory contain values which indicate whether the station has been properly initialised or not by its firmware. Cumulus checks these values when it starts up, and reports the error if they do not contain the expected values. You can prevent Cumulus doing the check by editing cumulus.ini and adding a line to the [Station] section:

EWdisablecheckinit=1

Note that this may just result in you getting invalid data readings, as the check is there to ensure that the station is working correctly.

Where do I find the cumulus.ini file to edit?

In the Cumulus folder, close Cumulus first.

It should be in the folder that cumulus makes when it installs the program
Usually C:/cumulus
Open it with wordpad or notepad to edit it and save it

Thank you, Mark. I am a newbie...could you walk me through this a little more? I am in the cumulus folder and I do not see an ini file, could it on a notepad or in another file? again, thank you for your help.

If you are using notepad to find the file, where it says Files of Type select all files you should then see it

Try a power reset your base station. Remove the batteries and USB cord for a few minutes, then perform a normal startup/sync sequence (in the manual) with the transmitter.

Yes, the check is in there for a reason. Try resetting your station, as Mark suggests. If that doesn't help, then you will have to try running Easyweather to see if that can talk to your station. If it can't, then I guess Ambient will have to earn their money and do their own support.

Thank you all for the help!!! I the resetting of the station was the ticket. Now Steve, while I have you, do I need to do anything in regards to shutting Cumulus down when the computer goes off?

One other note, my station was reporting to EasyWeather.

Thankyou again!!

Yes, shut Cumulus down before you switch the PC off. Most importantly, don't allow your PC to go to sleep while Cumulus is running - but you already knew that as you'd read it in the readme.txt ;)
