OK, my setup.....
Cumulus v1.9.2 (1019)
Windows XP
A few months back (before v1.9.2) I decided to go live with a web page & I'm not sure whether it was the upgrade to v1.9.2 or it was there all along (i upgraded soon after going live).
I have Cumulus set to start whenever I have the computer running (in my startup folder) and all works fine but when I go to shut off the computer, it seems to hang at "windows is shutting down" or "saving your settings". For example, if I've been running Cumulus for the whole day, it can take 10-15 minutes for the computer to turn off, not running Cumulus at all goes back to shutting down in a few seconds.
I can't seem to find any similar problems searching the forum, does that mean that 'I' am the only one that has this problem or am I not looking in the right places?
Any help would be appreciated.

Do you close down Cumulus before shutting Windows down, and wait for the 'please wait' window to close? It might be worth checking in task manager that it has closed properly. I'm not aware of anyone else having this problem, and I run Cumulus on two different PCs with three different weather stations, and never have problems with Windows closing down.
If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything there.

Are you manually shutting down Cumulus before shutting down XP? Have task manager running and select Processes, click on the CPU column to get highest usage at the top. When you shut down you'll be able to see what is using the system resources, this may give you a clue.
CCleaner (it's FREE) http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/update ... 541&l=1033 is also quite useful as the Tools section allows you to easily turn on and off start up items
Finally, some security software can be reluctant to close e.g. Norton has be known to be a real slow coach.

Re: Computer slow to shut down after running Cumulus.
I did a fresh install on an older (much slower) machine and have problems with Cumulus shutdown. As suggested, it's likely Cumulus shutting down that's slowing your computer power down sequence.
In my case it's the FTP in V1.9.2 that's giving me grief. The "waiting for ftp thread to terminate" message does not go away, even if I wait 15 minutes while attempting to close Cumulus.
I also noticed that FTP stopped about 6 hours ago for some reason and the Cumulus display continuously shows "Uploading".

Re: Computer slow to shut down after running Cumulus.
The ftp component does seem to get locked up on some people's systems, despite my efforts to put all kinds of checks and extra code in. Presumably something to do with certain ftp servers, or connection problems. Using the option to periodically disconnect the realtime ftp may help, if you're not using that already. Other than that, I have no other suggestions, I've pretty much exhausted the number of timers and attempts to abort/quit/disconnect that I can add. If it was a problem that I actually hit myself - ever- I might be able to do something about it.

Re: Computer slow to shut down after running Cumulus.
For giggles I went back to 1.9.1 build 989 on this system, and the FTP issue went away. I offer this only as a datapoint in what I'm sure is a frustrating bug chase. I am not using realtime FTP.
I know you are very busy and this is a low priority (it's low priority for me too), but if you think it would help, I'd be happy to set you up an FTP enabled, web accessible "sandbox" on the server that was giving me trouble as a place to test. Of course, no guarantees that it will consistently be an issue, only that I hit the problem there for a few days in a row with the latest build, and the problem went away with an older version.
Again, this is not a request to chase the problem, only an offer of help since you've had difficulty reproducing it. If you are interested, drop me an email.

I don't 'usually' shut down Cumulus first but I have tried shutting down first & it made no difference.steve wrote:Do you close down Cumulus before shutting Windows down, and wait for the 'please wait' window to close? Somebody suggested task manager, nice idea 'but' it shuts down before you can see anything.
Somebody else mentioned FTP ... I have never had any problem with FTP & I run the real time meters.
PS, ZIP file has been sent in a separate personal message.

Re: Computer slow to shut down after running Cumulus.
Thanks. I can see that there are a few occasions where Cumulus was unable to close down. On those occasions, there had been ftp problems previously, so it looks like this ties in with what Charlie is seeing.
