Upgrading to latest stable version of cumulus

Post by vetgmc »

I am currently using Cumulus 1.8.7 and I want to upgrade to the latet stable version as per the website. The instructions only refer to new installations. Can anyone advise me how to make the upgrade without damaging my data?
My current weather station is WH-1091. I plan to get a Vantage PRo 2 in a few weeks. I am running Windows XP.

Instructions for upgrading are in the readme.txt file (available separately on the downloads page):

Upgrading:

If you are upgrading from a previous version, you can install
this version over the top of these (just run the setup.exe).
Your data files will be saved (you should take backups
before upgrading to be safe).

Instructions for upgrading are also in the FAQ:

How do I upgrade to a new release?

Back up your data, and run the new setup, you can install the new version to the same place as the previous version. Occasionally, there may be actions you need to perform before or after the upgrade - these will be documented in the readme.txt file.
During the install, you will be given the option of installing the HTML files. If you have customised the existing pages, you might want to untick this option so that your versions don't get overwritten. Cumulus will always install the files to a folder called 'originals' in the 'web' folder, so you can look at them to see if there are any changes you might want to include in your customised versions.

Why not include this in the standard release package? This isn't the first time this has been asked and would seem sensible with little or no extra effort.
Punctuation is the difference between 'Let's eat, grandma' and 'Let's eat grandma'
