Good afternoon all,

My wife has asked for a weather station for christmas (or maybe in the sales after?) and so I have been doing some reading to try and decide what to buy.

I have looked on maplin (N96FY and N96GY (on offer)) and amazon and to be honest I am a bit baffled by what I should buy her!

The only decision I have made is that I would like to get one that has support for Cumulus as I like the support it has on this forum.

I know its the age old question, but what should I be looking out for and any reccomendations?

I have a budget of up to £150

Thanks in advance,

Mark

May I recommend this Station?

http://www.weathershop.co.uk/shop/brand ... ation.html

The La-Crosse WS2350 (Techno-Line) Weather Station.

Ideally connect via Serial Cable if your PC has a Serial Port to avoid any issues.

A solid Station with very little in the way of Issues.

My 10p for today :lol

My weatherstation is a WH-1080 (Fine Offset, same as the Maplin N96GY). I considered a Scientific WMR-88, but this model does not support data logging (no history is kept when PC is off). Any other type was above / far above budget.
Should it die now (but it doesn't), I would purchase the same one, or a WH-3080
Pros: Cheap, USB (my PC doesn't have serial RS-232, just USB), and of course compatible with Cumulus. Many other Fine Offset Cumulus users.
Cons: Quality assurance might not be perfect (from what I have read). However, I installed my WH-1080 half a year ago, Not one problem so far. The WH-1080 touchscreen certainly is not perfect. But it has been weeks I looked at it. I watch my published HTML pages, and sometimes the Cumulus program, I regard the WH-1080 console as a black box.

I totaly agree. If you have a budget then I think the above suggested is good value for money.

Hi, Welcome to the forum. I use a La Crosse 2306 and I find that they are good and they don't cost too much. I did risk it when using a usb converter with Cumulus but it did work, but all don't have that luck and so they use serial. I have owned a non pc La Crosse for almost two years and have not had trouble and I have owned my La Crosse 2306 which I use with Cumulus for 3 and a half months and it is working well. That's my experience with the La Crosse and so is my recommendation.

All,

I decided to go for the WH-1080.

I am normally the type of person that wants to get the best equipment that will last, but on this occasion I have decided to save myself some money and see how much my wife actually uses the weather station and see if I get into it or not!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am sure I will have a tun of questions after christmas!

Make sure you choose the one for £59.99 http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-touchscreen ... ter-228825 as there really is no point in spending more. I'm sure you'll have fun setting it up for your wife.
