wind speed

Post by moley »

Hi all i have an easyweather set up and just recently the readings can be all over the place, low temp -48c and now at the moment the wind is blowing around 30 mph and it is reading 4.5 continous with no gusts.
Anyone have a clue what is wrong? Thanks

This will happen if running Easyweather and Cumulus at the same time. If this is the reason, just run Cumulus.

Cumulus (and Easyweather) have already read the data and saved it. No point clearing the memory. You can either manually edit the data, or delete it in the log files and have nothing, and start over.
Check your graphs to get an idea of how the data should look like if you removed the bad data. Write down the mins/max and the times. You will need this to change your log files. Go to the Wiki. It will tell you what a log file is, where to find it, and what all the numbers mean. Print it. Close down Cumulus before editing any files, and do a back up of said files. Commence editing. The silly data will jump out at you, change them. BTW, edit them in notpad, not Excel. Excel may change the way the data is displayed, and then Cumulus won't read it. This is all in the Wiki.
Once you've edited the affected log files you can open Cumulus and use (in the updated versions) the edit feature for the dayfile log, monthy, yearly and all time records, as no doubt they would have copied the monthlogs information for all the records. They will need to be edited by being told to "look again" at the updated monthlog.
Again check the Wiki, it's been a while since I've had to do what you need to do. Steve may have further advice for you as well.

I should add that I think the bad data is from the unit not reading the data correctly because of a bad signal. I suggest you move the indoor or outdoor unit to get a better signal. You could also try for fresher batteries, do a test on the ones in the outdoor unit first (got a multimeter?). You could also try eliminating anything that could be interupting the signal (other than walls, you need them :D ). Check that the cable from the anemeter is in good condition. You may be picking up low wind speed or no wind speed from a bad connection. Moisture will do that, or electrical interferance.
