dayfile.txt stopped updating
Have just got back from vacation and suffering from jet lag. Checked Cumulus was still running and there was an error light (not usually a problem) and without really checking got rid of the messages but recalled seeing something about dayfile could not be updated. Upon checking further I note that the dayfile stopped updating after the 16th Nov. At this staged, still feeling groggy, I can't see why there is a problem and thought it best to ask for help and what do I need to do to get the records up to date. If you need any files/folders attached let me know.

Re: dayfile.txt stopped updating
The usual reason for Cumulus being unable to write an entry to dayfile.txt is that another process has the file open. The error message should be in the diags file, along with the entries that it couldn't write, so that you can manually add them.

Re: dayfile.txt stopped updating
I have updated the dayfile - took the easy option of restoring Cumulus using backup files prior to problem. When restoring the dayfile the system said file in use. This was resolved by closing CumulusToolbox which I wondered may be the root of the initial problem.
I have Toolbox set to upload the dayfile at 00:15 every day (this option has been in place for some time). Now for some unknown reason when Toolbox tries to execute this command it now gets "The remote server returned an error:(550) File Unavailable (eg. File Not found, no access)" and it continues to attempt to execute this step which stops Cumulus from updating the dayfile the next day.
I have been able to manually FTP the dayfile to the server no problem but when using Toolbox (scheduled or upload now) I still get error 550.
No manual change has occurred to cause this as we were away and the house was empty. I have got the latest Toolbox and feel sure that the problem is my system as no one else has reported this issue – I’m now stumped and hope someone may have an answer.

Re: dayfile.txt stopped updating
Just after midnight - favourite time for hosts to maintain / back-up their servers. Have you checked your 'normal' uploads at that time ?

Re: dayfile.txt stopped updating
Cumulus is updating fine. The problem is that Toolbox gets the 550 error at whatever time I force it to update the dayfile.txt file - quite odd. I think I will try using Cumulus to do the dayfile update (albeit that this will mean it does this every 5 mins) to see what happens.

Don't forget that Cumulus now as the ability to do 'stuff' once a day after the rollover processing...

You could use the facility to run an external program once a day to do the ftp from a batch file?nking wrote:I think I will try using Cumulus to do the dayfile update (albeit that this will mean it does this every 5 mins) to see what happens.

Re: dayfile.txt stopped updating
Mark/Steve - thanks for the reminder. I am using this excellent feature for the current conditions metar update and will for the dayfile if I cannot get it working as before.
Cumulus has been able to update the dayfile.txt no problem which tends to point to Toolbox. I can't see why this would be the case so maybe David could offer some possible explanation for this odd behaviour or what I might do to track down the cause.
Just one of life's minor irritants’
