There is a reason for discounting.

If a product is getting a high level of customer returns, the retailer will want to rid themselves of this problem sooner rather than later.

Although faulty units may be well below 50% of all products sold, customers are taking a risk to buy at this price.

This may well be true I dont know
Maplins give a 12 month warranty so if it fails they will sort it out
I have been running a N96FY for 3 years almost trouble free which also comes up on offer at the same price
It is a cheaper way for people to get into stations then decide if they want to upgrade to the more expensive kit at a later date

Maplin have dropped the price like this for the last 3 years at Xmas, think its a sales thing.

Think its a good time to buy a spare or as a present.

Has any one ever thought when the best time it is to buy a weather station, I imagine in the middle of winter is not the best time for gettingup on the Roof and fit one, or is that a Job for Santa :D

I totally agree with you! These Fine Offsets are very good value for money and they have enabled many of us to get into automated weather stations by making them affordable (I remember ZX81's, Spectrums and Amstrads) - I wonder how many of us would have ventured into this hobby otherwise.

I would imagine that when considering the total sales of the many badged Fine Offsets that the faults as a percentage of total sales is quite good... provided you are using Cumulus of course ;)
