Maplin N96Gy v N96FY

Post by Truscom »

Totally new to this site and weather stations, could someone tell me the difference (if any!) between the N96GY and N96FY weather stations sold by Maplin? I have investigated online and it seems that they are both the Fine Offset WH 1080PC model. Any advice gratefully recieved. Maplin are currently offering the N96GY for £69.99 down from £129.99.
Thanks.
Martin

I think the main difference is that the N96FY has the MSF (or DCF?) automatic time setting and the N96GY (which I have) does not.

Hi,

There is a parallel thread on the same topic here. But my N96FY does NOT have a radio synchronised clock which makes it a 1081. :?

Cheers, Alan.

Well, that corrects a long-held misunderstanding of mine; I'd assumed that the difference had to be that the F version had the auto clock, but clearly not!

Thank you all for very quick responses. After looking at all the spec data, it would seem that the clock is the only difference and according to the Fine Offset website the 1080 has a radio clock and the 1081 is manual setting. Either way it seems a bargain at £69.99, thanks for your help.

Hi,
Just arrived here so be gentle :?

Received an N96GY for Christmas - assembled - setup, all OK. Downloaded Cumulus and away we go.
My question; the "Pressure History" bargraphs on the display are constantly "scrolling" from right to left. with no static bargraph for the 2h, 4h, 8h etc. columns.
Does this indicate a fault? i.e. the sensor not transmitting or something similar.

TIA

Yes, that's how it works. I don't see the point of it myself, but that's what it does.

Wow Steve, what a response time :)
Thank you for the info, I was afraid it would mean a trip to our local Maplin.
Now to get to grips with your software ;)

I've just bought the N96GY to replace my ailing N96FY. Before I bought it I asked Maplins what the difference was between the models and was told "the colour", and as far as I can tell that does seem to be the case. The FY's "outdoor parts" are a light grey, while the GY's are a darker shade. The GY's console is all matt black, compared to the FY's black and metallic combination.
