Yawcam 0.3.7 has been released. This is new:
- Fixed settings and GUI problems with Java 7.
- Fixed that image was saved at startup even when scheduler disabled the file output.
- Fixed broken horizontal flip when running as a service.
- Added text file hack: javarendering.txt
- Added an attempt to reconnect the camera if unexpectedly lost.
- Updated language files.
Let me know how you go with it. I tried it but my ftp failures seemed to increase so I've gone back to 0.3.6 today to see if they go away. Unfortunately I suspect there has also been a change at my ISP. I suspect they don't allow as many ftp session as they used to.
My webcameras seem to be running fine, with the odd occasional blip, but I think
that is down to either my router or ISP. I was uploading an image from both
webcameras at a 6 second interval, which may have caused the problem. I have now
set them to 30 second intervals and the problem has now gone away
Cheers for that. My issues continued after I reverted to the older version, but now I have reduced the uploads to 15 minutes and it has worked perfectly for over 4 days now. Hopefully there was an issue at my ISP that has been resolved and I'll try increasing the uploads.
I had a death of YAWCAM this morning running the older 0.3.6. Got a message that the Java wrapper was unregistered and it froze everything. I notice I've lost all my FTP settings to boot.
Sigh...

I was using YawCam for some time and gave up in the end as I wanted to use the scheduling capabilities and too often, it didn't kick off at start of schedule, leaving a black image.
I optimistically came back to it with this release, but I had a nag screen 3 minutes after program start, saying that Filtergraph has stopped working and Filtergraph must be registered.
I looked into this, it is mentioned on the Yawcam forum, and the fix is beyond what I felt comfortable doing: edit various DLLs with the same naming convention that Yawcam uses, then register the DLLs. It seems that this has worked for some and not for others. The impact of this issue is that Yawcam stops working and the image freezes. Restarts if Yawcam restarts but it only lasts 3 minutes. So not great.
I have started using Blue Iris, recommended in another post as a Yawcam replacment. The down side is it cost me 20 euros (free version has a watermark on webcam image) but its a functionally rich package and could do a lot more if I wish. I know most people prefer a free package, but unfortunately I don't have much time to play around if things are not working and I need something that is reliable and just runs. Working well so far, we'll see. I have also tried Image Salsa in my time. That worked for a while but will no longer pick up my IP Camera. I have not been able to fix this and the camera is clearly fine and visible in other packages, so moved on!
Thanks for the info Helen. I'm no longer using YAWCAMs ftp ability, instead I'm ftping the images with fling which as been 100% reliable so far (touch wood), so I think I might try giving blue Iris a go as well.
I have had problems with YawCam intermittently giving up and needing restarting to get going again. The latest version seems no better. So I'm interested in alternatives. I'll take a look at your suggestions when I have time - very busy ATM. Thank you
Gina
Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.
I have a problem with Yawcam stopping accessing the camera and it is necessary to tell Yawcam where the camera is again. Or restart Yawcam. Only solution I can see is to restart Yawcam automatically during night when it is scheduled off anyway.
A quirky little programme!

I now have Yawcam stop and restart at 5:15 every morning. This has worked quite well, other than I get a message that it can't find ????.??? (can't exactly remember the file name) but that does not stop it from running. But then I was away for a few days and Yawcam seemed to have frozen last night and a restart when I got back home fixed that. I am running v. 0.3.4>5 Build 2011-02-07 and even though I have not made any program update or any setup changes there appears to be a few changes and different messages in the console box over the past month or so. Very few, and most days none, error messages compared to a lot of errors that occurred before. Agreed, a little quirky...
since I've changed YAWCAM to just save the image locally and then ftp it to my webpage with fling, its been 100% reliable for over a month now. ( I guess I should add "touch wood" again ) Fling seems to be much better than YAWCAM at recovering from any connectivity issues, but unfortunately it cost a few $$.
I have decided not to use the FTP function as it caused various intermittent problems already mentioned. I now use YawCam to create a file and then use Cumulus to upload the jpg file when doing the scheduled upload of data files. So far so good.....
